Ballast wouldn't be a problem, however, loading the V-Box might prove to be difficult...

Thats a nice looking flatbed, while you are taking pictures, I'd like to see some of the bed :D Pretty please!

Wouldnt be top heavy with a bit of salt in there...
At least if he got stuck he could still make it home.
Just wondering how the heck he plans on getting all that off.

Reminds me of a time I made a trip back from Chicago. I had a 1 ton roller on a trailer in the back of my Mitso dump and also pulling a 5 ton trailer loaded with equipment.

I have the same sled ! I think he is going to enjoy himself very much.LOL

The CR is Matts (roomate) along with the blue 00 Mountain Max. He just sold it this morning. The black sled is also a Mountain Max, but it is a 99 and belongs to another friend. I have the same 99 MM but I still have the stock hood paint on mine. I'm going up to my shop this weekend to pickup my bike and sled. Gonna be a tight fit in the garage with two bikes and three snowmobiles.

Let me know if you want any specific pics.

Andy

Edit: Got everything unloaded this morning. Hooked all four corners of the bed to a Cat 320 excavator and swung it off. I wasn't there, but I heard it was no problem.

Thanks for the pics Andy! Looks like these guys have lots of fun with the sleds and the bikes. That Viper is really sharp looking. Ever see the Yamaha RX1 snowmobile? I really like that one too. I wish I had somewhere to keep one and ride one. :headwall The RX1 is a tad over $9k. I personally like the Yamaha snowmobiles best. Www.Yamaha-Motor.Com. Mike :)

Were big fans of our toys out here. There so much gorgous country here that having toys is the only way to access most of it.

I had a couple of friends that bought RX-1's last year. Good running sleds, excelent power, but to heavy for me. Loading and unloading is a real pain, plus you need at least three guys to get them unstuck. Yamaha might want to consider renaming it the RX-1ton. :D

I personally beileve Yamaha sleds are the only way to go. All the dealers around here really stand behind their product. The Mountain Max I have now is my fifth Yamaha sled. Never had a problem with any of them (Unless you count cosmetic damage that I created). Rolled my last sled 56 times down the side of Kebler pass and it started on the first pull once we got to it. Everything else was really tore up, but the motor ran like brand new. Some things are just built better than others.

Yea, I know they are known for being heavy. Are they fast though, like extremely fast or just so so? What would you say the fastest BONE STOCK sled is right off the showroom floor? The RX1 or something else? I have read somewhere that the RX1 has a top speed of about 119. Mike :burnout

Long0
11-30-2003, 08:44 AM
I'm not real sure what the fastest sled is. I am always looking for a larger paddle on my sled for the deep powder, and the bigger the paddles you get the slower your sled will run. Fast in good, but I prefer getting the high mark. My machine tops out about 70MPH which is fast enough for me.

I believe the RX-1 has a 121" track, which is fairly short for mountain sleds. We all run anywhere from 136" all the way up to 151". With all that extra track it slows machines down quite a bit. I'm not sure what the snow cross guys run for tracks, but I do know they are fairly short to gain speed. Yamaha does have the narrowest ski stance of any of the manfactures which I believe has a lot to do with Yamaha's popularity (sp) of the Mountain sled of choice.

Depending on somebody's location and their riding ability, there is a sled out there to fit anybodys application. Technology has improved so much in the last 6-8 yrs that I think all manfactures are building good snowmobiles, its just a matter of finding the one that fits your needs. Very similar to the big three truck debate.

Good reply Andy. What truck debate? I thought we all agreed already that GM made the best trucks?!? :D :D Back to sleds, I think the RX1 may get fuel injection in 2005, that would be a nice step up I think. Tuning 4 carbs to run good together I would think would be a pain in the butt? Any sleds out there yet that use fuel injection that you know of? Mike

I just checked Yamahas web site. The shorty RX1 has the 121" track, and the longer version of the RX1, the Warrior, has the 136" track. I like that shorty. :shades Mike :)

Artic Cat (and possibly others) had EFI in the early - mid 90's. I believe the first year the AC Wildcat came out it was also EFI, but then changed the second or third year back to carbs. I'm not real knowledgable about all the different sleds out there, but I believe most of the manfactures are all running carbs, but don't quote me. ;)
I rode an EFI wildcat for about half a season a couple years back after crashing mine. The throttle response was real sluggish when you got above about 10,000 ft.

Yamaha came out with a "smart carb" in 98'. The general idea behind it was to adjust your mixture depending on your altitude similar to the way EFI is said to work. It ended up being nicknamed the "dumb carb" with us. Of all the places I ride around here, there is only one parking area that is less than 7,500 ft. I have always jetted my machine for 9K - 11K ft. With jetting for that altitude, I have always been fine when starting at 7,500 ft or climbing to 13,000 ft. If I remember right, I believe that Fuel Infection also added more weight than carbs. Again, it all depends on where you ride along with your riding ability.
