How and why I have come to own an 810 is a very long story.
First off I to apologize to Jerre, I had spoken to him back in April after I got the new truck and asked him to hold a plow for me. This summer and fall has been crazy, and a 24 round trip to Erie Pa was just impossible this fall. I am still in the middle of building my house, very hard to do when you are solely responsable for every aspect of the build both from schedualing and doing the actual work. That is why I wasnt at JP's or St. Jaques BBQ's
Then I toyed with the idea of not putting a plow at all on the new truck, and because of the house build I was really late in getting out contracts. That all led to late seasonal money coming in, which was needed for the over budget concers on the house. We had a 2-4" snowfall in early Nov. and that led to me sqeaking by to get through that, but I guess others did even worse. I got alot of calls thereafter, and priced our service waaaaaaaaaaay high. Well alot more seasonal money came in, and now I needed another plow. So with a little checking I found out that plow pricing was alot higher this season, but I found a 8.5 pro plus with wings installed for 4350.00. I gave a $ 500.00 deposit on it and waited for it to come in. It took a long time and when it did arrive it was only an 8'. They found me the 8.5 and i was to be installed today.
I priced 810's in the mean time and couldnt touch one for under 5K in CT. So I was resigned to the pro plus which was fine. Low and behold on Monday I get a call from a friend who bought the same truck as me,he is looking for a pro plus and cant find one. I offer him the plow I have the deposit on and call Portsmouth Ford and set an appt. to have a 810 installed yesterday. I left at 5am and arrived at 7.30 am, left the dealer at 10.30 am and was home by 1.30 pm, still in time to hang some sheetrock.
Yes I did make some negative comments about the plow, and I hope that I was totally wrong about the plow. I have no dealer support with in 2 hrs of me so I am on an island here. But being that I paid 4595.00 for the plow, having the convienence of not having to get out of the cab to attach the wings, and an extra 1.5' in width, it just made sence.
With the controller, the idea with the wing rockers at the top is the cradle the joystick in between your thub and pointer, and use the reach of the fingers to move the rockers. They are ok on the bottom, but in my application, I have the put my arm in an arkward position to move them. I think if I reposition the controller it will be better. It will take some time and experience to get used to it.
I do like the option of control over truck or plow lights. Some times in heavy snow the plow lights cause snow blindness, having the truck lights undercut the snow helps.

They wre the nicest people up there. Much nicer than other comany dealerships Ihave been to.
To echo Pickerings remarks, what really changed my mind and made me take the jump was what John D's comments to me in private. He didnt force the issue with me, and told me the good and bad.

Congrats Dino, I hope your 810 is as good as mine-no troubles after the first season,2 blown bulbs and a missing sticker. I used to Call Jerre once a week after i got my 810 just to tell him I love this plow....;)

Dino,

Good luck. You added one 810, I added TWO at $5,200.00 each. But added the rubber snow deflector to both.

My story was not as involved but I made the choice to go with the 810 when I order my 05-F-350PSD back in the last week of Sept. Called th dealed and he said great I will do both installed for $4,800.00 each out the door BUT I need a cash deposit of $4,000.00 No problem I know the availibility of the 810 late i nthe season will drive the price up so I give me a $5,000.00 CASH deposit on Oct. 1.

Long story short first week in December and NO PLOWS and it is getting blamed on Blizzard shipping. I call Blizzard to check and see if I can drive up and PICK UP the plows myself (8hours drive one way) and they tell me they have NO 810's the two ordered by my dealer were sold two weeks ago when he failed to make payment or schedule delivery.

WITH LUCK I found a NEW dealer with 810's on hand at a price. Called him on a Thursday moring dropped my F-450 same day after getting my deposit back. By Monday of the following week the plow was installed on the 05-F-350 I had the two 810's from first phone call to finall delivery in 5 days. Getting two plows installed in the first week of December was just not going to happen ANYWHERE else. I wanted the 810's and it cost me the addtional $800.00.

We have plow twice so far only 2"-4" snowfalls but they have worked great.

What was funny was watching the guys load the plow in the back of the truck. Took 5 guys about a 1/2 hr to get it in there. For a while I was afraid that someone may loose a didgit or two. But I was sure there was at least 2 trucks on the lot with 810;s on them when I left. What time did you get there? We left about 11 am. They put 2 guys on the job to get me out sooner.
When I called on Monday, they claimed only 1 plow left, but there was plenty behind the dealership, not to say that they were all accounted for.

I have spoken with John D many times over the past year, and he really is the one who convinced me. If it wasnt for my friend buying that truck early this week, I would have been stuck with the western. After seeing the blizzard I have to say that I am impressed with over all design and construction. Love the blue hue to the powder coat, and compared to the unimount it is very easy to put on and off. If the plow is 1/2 of what I have heard others tought it as, it will be a big asset and time saver. Thanks to all who helped with beta testing, and sorry for all the tounge in cheek comments made earlier. Feel free to crack on me, I am more than capable of taking it. Fire away.

Looks great Dino. :nodd I think the white truck with the white plow look is also a good combo like red and red is. ;) Truck seems to handle it really well, did you add Timbrens and/or crank the bars, or is the rear of the truck very heavy in itself? Good luck this season. I know it probably took alot for you to go buy a Blizzard, so I hope it works out for you. :) Mike

Thank you for the kind words. Yes the white on white goes well, in fact that is what really convinced to go blizzard.
As far as handling the plow, the truck stock was 36" to the bottom of the fender flare plow down, and 34.5 with the plow up. I went 5 turns on the t bars, and the truck now sits at 38.5" plow down and 37.5 plow up. I do have timbrens on the way from John ( garage keeper). I had them on my 98 and they wroked great, so I will repeat on the 04. The body does weigh a bit as ballast, plus the tools on board as well. After I get material for the first storm I will know my light weight.
