Im looking to get my blazer set up for plowing with a conventional setup my buddy has. Wires are connected to the plow lights/frame that would stay on the truck, and I was wondering if the old style setup still uses a solenoid even though they use cables to control the plow. Please inform me of this, I have always had Unimounts. Also any other suggestions on wiring this up would be appreciated.

Dave....The old style conventional cable operated plows use 1 solenoid. The lighting wiring is prety simple also........
Check http://www.westernplows.com in the publications section.
There will be wiring diagrams and such to help ya out !

Yes,you still need a solenoid. There are little micro switches in the joystick control that trigger the solenoid.

older westerns used neg. solinoids , but you can use twin post sol. if you run a jumper wire from the bat. side to either of the small post and the black wire from controller to other small post , sol. does not have to be grounded

That is exactly what I did, now another battery, add a leaf and the blazer is almost done.
