I'm looking to get a Ultramount plow for my '04 2500 HD w/ Dmax, LB, extended cab.

My dealer quoted me on a 7-1/2 pro plow but I noticed that the 8' pro plus is not much more money. Would the 8' pro plus be too heavy for my truck? Is the 7-1/2 pro all I need?

Right now I have a 8-1/2" unimount on an '86. I plow 6 small Wendy's parking lots with drive thru, 2 self storages and a few residential driveways.

BTW, I did check into swaping the 8-1/2 to my new truck. $1,200 just in parts.

Acordding to the western plow match on their website it is too heavy. It doesn't show any plow over 7.5 for your truck specs.

The Pro-Plus is much heavier, but a WAY better plow. The thing is really beefy.Your truck will handle it fine.Just turn up the torsion bars some, and make sure you add Timbrens.

Chris,
I agree with you that it is a nicer plow. But according to Western's site that plow is a no no for that truck. He would have to find a dealer willing to install it or install it his self.

Western doesn't list it due to the liability issues, they are just covering their butts. The truck will do fine with the Pro-plus.Should be able to find a dealer to put one on no problem.

If you can get the pro plus I say go for it. I have an 03 2500hd crew with the 7.5 pro and kick my self in the butt for not going 8 or 8.5. Going on corners those rear tires like to go over the snow.

Ray,

P.S. Chris won't steer you wrong he is one of our resident experts on this site.

If you can hang a Blizzard 810 on there at 995#, then it surely could handle the weight of the Pro Plus, maybe even the 9', which is only 837#...

I'll second Chris's advice that 7.5' is not wide enough and that it needs to be much wider to cover the rear wheels, and simply because the truck can handle it!

Invest the extra cash and go with a Blizzard 810 you will not be sorry. Unless you like spending more time that you have to plowing.

These is a post with pics of a 810 on a 2500HD.

Good luck.

Don't ever bother to put on a 7.5' plow because like Ray said, the rear tires will be riding over them. Told ya last year, Ray. ;)

Get the 8' Pro Plus, crank up torsion bars a few turns, install a set of Timbrens, and put some ballast in the rear.

I didnt want to be the first to say it.... But I agree with Ron,spend the few extra bucks, its well worth it,get the Blizzard 810,and will save you time and money everytime you use it.

I just sold my 8.5 Pro off of my '86 Chevy so now I'm ready to get the 8' for my '04.

I do have one question. What kind of controller does the Pro Plus come with? I have the hand held controller for my 8.5. Should I keep that and use it for the new plow or does it come with the same controller. I've seen that joy stick controller and I don't think I'll like it too much.

I think the Blizzard is a real nice plow but it costs a little more than I'm able to spend. Plus I live in Maryland and some years we get no snow at all.

I put a deposit on the 8' Pro Plus. It gets installed Wed. the 15th. It was the last one they had and they told me that they are not getting any more 8' PP until March. It does come with the hand held controller. I'm not sure if this is standard with all Western dealers but the owner of the place told me that he uses the hand held controller on all his plows. I guess thats why I had one on the last plow I bought from him.

I did get a little lazy and let them put it on. I did the last one on my '86 my self a couple years ago. They charge $300 for the install. I just have too many other things to do then assemble a plow. Of course after I set up the install the mechanic told me that Chevy is the easiest to install.

It should be a lot different plowing with a comfortable nice truck then the '86 C30 tank. The only problem is that its a NICE truck. The old Chevy was scared of nothing!
