Not sure which forum to post this in..

On a new install..when connectin the hydralic hoses..should they be wrapped with teflon tape, teflon paste, or leave the threads bare?

Thanks.

Most plow hoses have an internal seat, where they screw onto the fittings, and do not need any thread sealer. If there is no internal seat or fitting, just the pipe thread, use liquid teflon.

The Blizzard hoses use tapered seat fittings, there's no need for teflon of any type. When tightening the nut, wiggle the hose a little while you're doing it so the fitting seats correctly. Then just make the nut snug, do not overtighten or you can split the seat and end up with a leaking hose.

Where the fittings screw directly in to the manifold, the seats have an o-ring on them, and again, no teflon is needed. Just screw the fitting in, then seat the locking nut snugly.

The fittings that screw directly into the hydraulic cylinders require teflon, I've always used teflon tape. Make 3 wraps in the direction of the threads and then screw them on. Just be sure not to have any tape over the opening of the fitting, it could break free and cause problems for the solenoids.

Thanks guys. I'd rather be safe than sorry.

Alta, your plow should have O-ring fittings for the cylinders. These require NO TAPE OR PIPE DOPE. The old cylinders used a NPT thread that did require but all of the new ones use an O-ring fitting. Snug the fitting up by hand and point the end in the desired direction. Take a wrench and tighten the lock nut 1/8-1/4 turn to tighten.

As Pelican stated above if you get the JIC flare fittings too tight you will crack them.

Thanks, I haven't unpacked and looked at the hoses yet.

Thats a good tip on connecting them.
