I know it's small and cheap, but it beats shoveling salt off the back of the truck. It also turns a two-man operation into a one-man show.

I found it to be slow, but it works fine for the two places I salt.

I got it on sale at Canadian tire for $599. That means it's probably about $250 for you American guys. I still can't believe how cheap you guys get all your equipment down there. If you were to price a plow or pro salter here your wallet would run screaming for the hills.

Congrats on the step up! Glad to hear it worked out. FYI That looks like a Buyers SUV Pro Model, which I found in one of the online supplier's catalog for $760.00 American (not including shipping). The Buyers SUV Standard model runs $525.00 from there, which is about the cheapest for a single stage spreader that I've ever seen. Northern Tools sells a fertilizer spreader with a hitch mount & electric motor attached that I believe was in the mid to high $200.00 level, but only holds 100 pounds vs these models at 300 pounds. So I'd say that if you got that for $250 American, you got a fantastic deal!! Good luck with it & be sure to do a search on the Buyers threads here for lots of good tips on extending the life of it.

It is not the SUV Pro,it's the light duty standard model.Same spreader except the motor on the standard model is really small. No controls either, just a cig lighter plug.A switch could easily be adapted though.Spread width is only 10 ft,vs 30 ft on the Pro model.Probably why he finds it a little slow.

I'm sure for a couple of real small places,it will do fine for a few years.Seal the motor up so it lasts longer too. When it does go,I wonder if you can just bolt on the bigger motor for more performance ?

I looked at one of those Canadian Tire spreaders

THEY ARE BUILT TOUGH
Problem i had was the capacity and the fact when i asked the sales manager about parts and repairs he told me i would have to ship it to the manufacture at my cost for warranty work
and all parts have to be shipped to Canada

and THEY ARE IN THE USA
So i ended up buying a western pro flo built in the USA but easy to get parts for in Canada:canada

Well then Mill Supply got the pictures backwards in their catalog :grinz I looked closer & I can see a fatter motor on the pic of the Standard, so what you are saying makes sense & these pics are backwards. But at $525.00+ shipping here, it still makes it a great deal.

Have someone fabricate a guard around the motor. We had a new Meyers unit just like that a few years ago with the motor hanging down. First time out, backed into a frozen snow bank and bent it all to hell. We also had to replace the motor every year. Seems salt water worked its way down last the shaft seal rusting things solid. Apply heavy grease in the area to help keep the water out.

They are built pretty well, and I'm sure with a little ingenuity, you could make a hopper extension to increase capacity somewhat. The problem is with single stage units,is if you pack them full of salt, they tend to not want to flow well.Your better off keeping the salt in the back of the truck, and just loading a few hundred pounds at a time.

I like the swing down mount. It's east for throwing a blower in the truck, and to make installation easy.

Still a great deal too.
