Around here it's about 36". 2 years ago we got 13" total, last year we got almost 100"

Ours is 98"
2000/2001 - 105"
2001/2002 - 65"
2002/2003 - 75"
So we are due.
Also we plowed
2000/2001 - 30 times
2001/2002 - 15 times
2002/2003 - 18 times
We are over due, all I ask for is an average year.

Sounds like you get a bunch of little storms - the best kind in my opinion. What's your trigger?

We average about 45 inches a year, with an average of 18 plowable events. Most are on a 2" trigger.
Not a huge amount of snow, but it's a lot for a busy metro area where there is little room to put it.

We usually average 25+ plowable events per season, and anywhere from 150"-180" on average, last year we were probably closer to 200"- 210". We had one stretch where it snowed for 8 days straight and we had a minimum of 4" each time, usually closer to 6-8". I hope we have another similar winter!!!

Like I said- SNOW COUNTRY!!!!! I LOVE IT!!!!:D

Here's a perfect example of the lake effect machine-
Joe only lives about 20 minutes from me, and is probably 15 miles south in lattitude. He is south of the lake, where I am more east of the lake, prevailing winds in my area tend to come in from the east and pick up a lot of moisture off of Lake Ontario, and quite convienently drop it in my back yard!! Gotta Love it. I will see if I can find some pics of a few of the past years winters and put them up- I have to have some 35mm ones I can scan in somewhere- just need to ask my wife where.
Bill
I will also keep you guys jealous by posting some throughout the year! Lol!!
Official closest NWS station average is 23.9". My records going back to 1993\4 show that they are correct! The problem here is we never have an average year. It's either way below that number, or way above. I think only 1 or 2 seasons that i have records for were within a few inches of average. One of those seasons we didn't even drop the plows, and only salted twice, that was a depressing winter for sure :headwall

46" in Southeast Michigan. Way more than that 2 hours away along the Lake Michigan shoreline. I hate them...:D

we get around 140" give or take some just depends what the lake effect machine decides to do to us...
20 year average - 78"
2000-1 - 94.5" / 3" trigger, plowed 12 times. 1st plow 10/28
2001-2 - 56" / " " " 7 " " " 12/17
2002-3 - 65.5" / " " " 7 " " " 11/17
It's not coming out the way I type it. 7 is supposed to be "# of times plowed".
Around 60-70" is average here i believe. Last year we got over 100". Third highest amount in recorded history, which goes back over 100 years.
Missed the highest by less then a foot or darn close to that amount.

11-26-2003, 01:43 PM
Just checked the environment Canada website and we average about 51" with 10 - 12 plowable events. That's why we have Meyers around here that don't break down! They hardly have anything to do.:D That's an average event of 4". Can't even imagine 200"! Like EZSnow we only had a few (4-5) plows last year. Looks like we're making up this year though, how about you EZSnow?
Wyldman it sounds like each of your plows is almost debatable with 45 / 18 = 2.5". I hate those because the customer's 2" and my 2" are about 2" apart!!!!!

35 yr avg for Cleveland is 60.9". 6 Yr avg is about 62" as we had 96.7" last winter, third snowiest on record. Recordings are taken on the west side at the airport, the east side receives more snow, but how much I'm not sure. We plowed 2" triggers about 26 to 28 times and our 1" triggers 36 to 42 times. We had 76 seperate billable events last winter where we invoiced atleast one customer for work. The average winter would be 18 to 20 2" plowings or about 40 billable events.

From Hamilton Airport readings...60 inches annual average. I'd say we're probably more like 50 inches in Burlington/Oakville. 12 plowable events at 2" trigger usually here. Salt events would more than double that total though.

Leadville, Colorado, 10,152 feet above sea level. Snow on the ground from mid November to haveing remants memorial day on the north side of my house. 12" July 4, 1996, 60 miles south they had 4 FEET on June 11, 2000.
Plowing time, sure I get a lot, per hour rate nowhere what a guy in chicago or New Jersey could get.

For the past two years I've only plowed 4 times each season.
Think I'm going to move to the NorthEast with all you lucky guys.:D
Boss, we may get more snow but the problem is that EVERYBODY has a plow:(. A lot of old beat-up manual-angle blades on s10's and jeeps that aren't even state inspected. People will have them for thier own driveway or private road. I make my money with the sander cause not too many of them around as it takes a bigger truck.

Mick- you're right, everyone and their brother has a plow out by me, this being my first year going commercial, I only have 3, but next year I am looking at possibly wrapping up the entire block of stores near where I plow now. If I can do that, and possibly get the landscaping as well, I will have a 10 minute commute to work and work for 6 days a week during the lawn season. I've got a good chance at it since I am getting to be pretty well known in the area, and I am picking up contracts one by one as the other companies see my work. I hope to make this my main money maker, with residential driveways my "play" money.

Our average down in P-Town is 25", but the last few years, we've been a bit above that, last year I think we got about 28-32" depending on the area, more to the north.

I agree with Bob.
It seems that sometimes in Meriden where we live we get lucky a lot of the time and score some of the bigger snow totals at the end of storms for the central to southern part of the state.
Up in the NW and corner of CT they get bombed like they are from a different state or something but we make out well in our area of the state.

not possitive on this but i think it is about 120-130" i get mountain effect. its small only 3,165' but it is isolated from the real mountains of this state so all mouisture is dropped right here. i have had 2' on the ground and you go anywhere within 10 miles N/S/E/W and they may have 6" or nothing. i have a question i have been trying to find a website that gives information like that with no luck. anyone know where to look. thanks. and oh last year was the pits first half of winter got several feet then we went into the deep freeze -10-30 below for about a month.

some folks say 28" , some folks say 30" for the average snowfall in sw CT where I live.
Last two years we have pushed 55" and 60" respectively. Some years are higher some don't even hit the average.
I know its not alot compared to some areas, like Alan up in VT or chtucker out in the mountains of Colorado but believe me its plenty considering all the yuppies in 4x4 suv's that just have to go out and drive around in the snow just because they have 4x4.
Our big problem here isn't so much the amount of snowfall, its the amount of idiots that can't drive in a 1/2" of snow let alone 12" of it.
Thats the one big difference between CT and places like Colorado and VT ( and Others) most people in these place KNOW how to drive in snow !!!!

True, True, True!!!
But having spent some time in snowier regions, I noticed that people in those areas of the country are more adept at handling driving chores in any snowstorm than those who live im my area.
I truly mean that most people here can't handle a 1/2" snowstorm.
Then there are those who should have never been given a license in the first place !!! :headwall
Sometimes it makes me wanna :soapbox omg and go buy a horse ! or a semi automatic weapon (:jk on the gun part)

In Colorado we got Californicated.
Yuppies sell a home in the land of fruits and nuts, and move to "the mountains". They buy a Ford Exploder and figure snow, ice, dry roads... It's all the same with this kool car. I have been cruisng at 45 mph on good snowpack and seen a new Exploder go by at 60+. Idiots know NO local or season !!

Believe me, you don't have a corner on that market (the YUPPIES, transplants or idiots). Every year, I'll see a couple of SUVs in the ditch. The good thing is that the ditches around here aren't usually too steep. Just enough to need to call for tow out.
80" average here in the Champlain Valley. Gets up to 120" in the foothills about 20 miles east of us.
I about died at the look I got on a new transplants (from NJ) face when I told her that her new home was in an area that would probably see 100" of snowfall.
There's no shortage of pathetic drivers here either. If you ever get the chance to pick up a video titled "The Logger" do it! He does a comedy act for a live audience and gets right into flatlanders in VT. Talks about the guy who stuff his SUV into a snowbank. "I don't see a sign that says PARK HERE, d' you?" He says we enjoy pulling them out because we get a chance to humiliate. "Turn your wheels to the left, the opposite of what you did to drive in there!"
