I've been to busy getting everybody else set up,i managed to find enough time sunday to put a harness on my truck and to be perfectly honest i'd be embaressed to let anybody see how i did my own:geez ,I'm a neat freak when it comes to customers trucks,i do every harness myself, the guy helping me doesn't even ask to do it,he knows exactly how i am,he comes in the shop, opens his truck mount box and goes to work.My poor truck:grinz The old girl looks like an electrical abortion gone bad:( Kind of like the way the dealer that installed my first plow years ago:D

that cherrypicker is less then 1 month old, d@wn chi-tiwan junk I am going to try to polish it out with steel wool. avoid harbor freight cherrypickers or jacks, first lift with this one was that 800# spool back when it was 400' long and the boom broke, now it has a piece of 2½" schedule 320 black pipe it is almost ½" thick walls:D
my harness isint that bad, but still an abortion:shades
We still have cleanups to finish about a week, then have about one week of christmas decorations to hang at a bunch of commerical accounts, then we will be ready, or it seems that we are never really "ready" for the first storm. Just my two cents

I need to mount my salter, and I would prefer to do a fluid change on my tranny, but I can push snow right now, and I only have one account that is an automatic salt, so if I have to I can do that one by hand- small auto parts store lot.
Other than that I'm still doing construction work, and I'm forcing myself to go hunting on Thursday AM with a friend, my arm hurts I'm twisting it so much!!:D LOL!
The only thing I really need to finish before snow is one more roof- couldn't do it before due to rain or snow, and last weekend I had to pour 18yds of concrete for the customer since he couldn't get a mason to agree to a date and he needs to get his garage up. So it looks like this weekend will be throwing tin!

I WAS all ready. Then Sunday I took off with the one ton. Turned a corner from a stop sign and it died. Wouldn't start. Had it hauled to the dealer's. Yesterday, they figured out it was a transfer pump. Today, they figure out it's also a fuel sending unit. The worst part of it is that when they installed that flat bed, they welded it to the frame. Had to cut the bed off to get to the fuel tanks. Two days, $900 later and it's still there. Maybe tomorrow. I can plow with the 1/2 ton. Just so I don't need to sand. With these temps, not much worry of either :( .

Still need to install and wires lights, headache rack, re-route the trailer electrical harness connector up to the bumper with new connector, order several necessary equipment, parts, and tools to carry in my truck, and get a load of magic salt and sand.
The good news is that I am very close to be completed with leaves cleanup, so I should be able to work on my truck pretty soon. :burnout
But if it should snow now, I still will be able to go out plowing.

Mick - you shouldn't have to pull the flatbed off to get the tank(s) out. They should have been able to drop them out from underneath.Do these guys know what they are doing ?

Exactly my same thought, but I didn't want to comment about it earlier since I am not an expert mechanic, so I could not say for sure. Over two days and probably at least a grand by now, and it is not fixed yet, I think that tell me something is not right. :geez
Sorry to hear you are having this problem.

I agree- I have worked in some pretty cramped spaces before, but they should have been able to drop the tanks right out the bottom, even if it meant cutting the straps and replacing them. It sounds like they either don't know what they are doing, or they are trying to take you for a ride. Is this your regular mechanic?
They should also have had enough time now to replace the sending units, both tanks( if needed) and the transfer switch, and if not yesterday, they should be buttoning it all up today.
Hey Wyldman, what is the book time to replace two sending units, the transferswitch, and some lines? I know that book time is usually not too accurate, but just out of curiosity, what would the manufacturer give you to do it?
(I'm assuming that you use similar tables to most of the shops in my area that are provided by the manufacturer or other industry resource.)

 mick, i had dual tanks i went to 1 last year, new tank sending unit and straps! well my sending unit went bad last month, my mechanic, friend, decided insted of pulling fuel tank down, we just un bolted 8 bolts that held the bed down since its only been 2 months since the new bed was put on, used never sieze on bolts, took us 1 hour!! even when we took old tanks out it only took 2 hours to drain them then un bolt them!! air tools are fast i would question them, wyldman would probably know what the book time shouls be, just my thoughts!!! good luck! Nothing major, I just have to change all the fluids in my truck and both plows. I mounted the prowings over the weekend, they are nice, but it takes a little customizing to get them to fit....
Now I just need to stock up on salt, no biggie, I'll probably run to get some today!
Thanks for the concern, guys. I appreciate it. Yes, they have my confidence. It's one of the biggest dealers in the area. I bought the truck there. They replaced the PMD and glow plugs last winter and do all my maint. Plus I bought the wife's new Buick there. Got called this morning that it's done. When they replaced the transfer pump, they found that the sending unit was leaking. Did that yesterday and put it together early this morning. Bill came to $1038.
When the service manager called yesterday, he had several choices, another was to cut a hole in the wooden bed. I bought the truck like that and I know it was a custom built, heavy-duty rig. I'll find out more when I go get it this afternoon.
Now I need some snow/ice to pay for it.:(

The manager had taken off early when I got there. The mechanic that worked on it was gone for the day. So, I was going to have to wait till Friday to ask him again. But found this on the service order:
"... replaced transfer pump works now but sender unit on rear tank leaks bad needs new sender unit got ready to remove rear tank and found rear bumper assemb welded to tank cover had to cut and remove body completely off removed and replaced sender from top new clamps and assemb instal body and new bolts fill tank no leaks at this time."

So somebody got a little excited with the welder- that explains alot. Thanks for the update Mick! We were worried for a bit, but it sounds like they were reasonable. I don't agree with the charge- but then again I do almost all of my work myself- with the exception of rebuilding the tranny- that gets sent out. I will pull and install it, and everything else.
Bill
Good luck!! Hopefully you'll have time to install everything else before you get to try out your plow!!

I do very little maintenance or mechanical work myself. I'd rather send it out and have it done right the first time. Seems like every time I try to save money by doing something myself, it winds up costing more. Likewise, if I try to use "a guy I know". My wife and I were talking about this on the way to pick it up. It may cost a little more, but we know they have the equipment and it'll be done right. That happened last year on the 1/2 ton. It needed a steering box, so the place where our son worked tried to "save us some money". I wound up paying them, then, when it wasn't working, still taking it to another place to have it done right.

I am fortunate enough to have some experience, and help fro a father who has done most of his work also. We are a mechanically inclined family, and have most of the tools needed to do the work right the first time. If we don't have what is needed, and we can afford the needed item, then we will get it. We have a pretty good tool collection now, and still growing. Now getting our shop organized is another story..... LOL!!
