I used the blue hydraulic fluid from Angelo's last year, but this year I decided to just run synthetic ATF.

A little more information please.........................what plow are we talking about here???

As far as what I do...............I just flushed and filled my Western yesterdaywith straight up ATF.

For the Blizzards we use their recommended BLIZZARD FLUID........

Western pump, straight ATF. Easier to spot leaks/busted hose with the red stuff going all over the place.;)

I use synthetic ATF in pretty much everything. It works well, performs great at low temps, and means only stocking one oil.

You can use it in the trans, power steering, etc too,so you have less spare fluid to keep in the truck.

Use a "quality" low temp hydraulic fluid, anyone that meets the mil. spec of 5606.
Whether it be Western; Boss, or Meyer.
They are designed for the conditions these power units operate in.
The color doesn't make any differance as it's just a dye.
 John.....................

Hello. If I wanna switch from "reg" fluid to synthetic is there anything special that's required? The manual says to lower the blade, put it in "float" and manually collapse the lift ram. Then drain the reservoir, put the plug back :D then remove and drain the three hoses by moving the blade to the extreme both ways- while the blade is on the ground. :rolling

Do I need to flush it w/something?? Thanks, Debi

Mine was cleaned and flushed thuroughly. Had something in it that would clog a valve.

Flush it completely first. No problems mixing synthetic and regular ATF.It's all ATF.The synthetic flows better at real cold temps,so the plow may get a little slower in extreme cold if you mix it with regular ATF.
