On Westerns new Pros Plus plows they don't have any stops. The piston is doing all the work. Seems to me this could be a potential weak point. Just checking to see how they are holding up?

Thanks Again for your help.

You mean no stops on the quadrant?

If that is what it is called. Positioned all the way left or right. The piston is the only thing taking the shock.

Thanks again

Instaled about 12 of them last year and none of them came back with an issue related to the cylinders or no stops.

They are on Ford F250's with 351 gas and automatics. The plows are 8' with the wings.

Will get some pics this week for you.

Again Thank You

I just found out that I bent a cylinder on mine. I'm guessing I did it on the first storm- took a big hit that sent me for the ceiling. I thought all last year that she had survived unscathed- not so.

Cost me $248. I didn't even try to get it covered under warranty.

Nothing like trying to compress non compress able fluids. There are valves that will react under pressure and dump to tank. That’s what snoway does in there down pressure system when you clobber something with the plow full down and locked. I don’t know why they don’t do more tricks in the designs of these circuits. Well I do it boils down to $$$ but I still think some of these problems can be fixed pretty easily for just a few $$$ and would make things run a lot smother

Most all plows have some sort of hydraulic relief. The problem is when the cylinders bottom out,the relief is useless.

They should have stops of some sort.It shouldn't be hard to rig something up id you want them.

Has anyone contacted Western to ask their opinion ?

Dear Mike:

Thank you for contacting Western.

There is no problem. The rectangular split bearing is able to handle the loads very well.

Sincerely,
Customer Service

We will train operators not to have plow fully angeled and try to keep a little cushion just in case. LOL

To clarify, my bent piston/cylinder wasn't a result of not having a stop. I took a hit on the leading corner of the blade while running a curbline (sewer grate). There was no room for the blade to rotate even if it did pop-off the pressure. So, I guess the lack of stops had nothing to do with my casualty. It had everything to do with the property not being properly marked!

(NOT my property- sub job)

Seems like they could just add the stops like they did on the MVP. I am glad the Ultra MVP mount add the T stops for a home position on the quad. I would not be happy knowing there was room between where the postion closes and the quad.

when i was attending the bbq a couple of weeks ago the rep
