I am going to be renting 3 skid loaders, all of them will be billed by the hour meter.
When I have rented TLB's for winter work it was by the month. But I believe there was also a clause for over so many hours was xx more per hour. Might be a factor where you are, but wasn't for me.

My Nations rent salesman said thar if i needed a loader they have special rates that he could give me for winter time rental.Only because they know the machine sits more than the thing works unless we get snow every day. And it was a monthly rental like from Nov to april.

Any I have rented was by the day with a cap on the hours. Most times anything over 8 hours you pay extra. But I have always rented in the summer months. Call around someone might give you a winter rate hours only if they know you and you have secure storage. Never hurts to ask.

Around here we rent loaders for the entire winter, and they are billed by the month. Not many places will rent them out for only a month, they want a winter rental agreement. The ones that do rent by the hour\day\month charge outrageous prices.
You can certainly rent them by the day. But since the winter season may be a few months in some areas, the better deal is to get it by the month ;) Now if you only need them for the "Big Ones", then you may run into all of them being sold out at that time, so that is a risk to be taking.

Here it's $47 per an hour rounded up. 2.1 hours equil 3 hours
You can pick up the loader a day or 2 in advance providing they have one, and bring it back a day or week after you are done with it.
To get this you have to have good credit, a account at the place with a credit card on file that has a $5000 limit that has room cause they hit you with a $3500 deposit each time you take the loader.
Just think, I gotta put up $10,500 each time. for a deposit...... that's a 3rd of the way to buying one.
No cap on the hours cause you pay by the hour meter.

My dealer told me it would be half the summer rate for half the hours, because they know they will sit. He also told me he does it for few people, only his regular customers. That is for the month as a minimum. Over hours are charged accordingly.

Talk to several rental agencies and get prices per month and for several months. Try some of the big name rental companies, but don't call their national number visit their local shop and speak to a manager. Some of them will give you a good rate, even lower than if you called their main office.
I just rented 2 loaders for the winter and got a great price!!! I have them from November 1 to April 1. I am being charged monthly. Anything over 40 hours a week on the hour meter is extra.
