I am trying to find a lime spreader that will fit in a 3/4 ton pickup. I need something to spread lime on steep farm hillsides, would a salt spreader work good for lime and if so where could I find one.

Thanks in advance for any help, Don

Don, where are you located? The reason I ask is that I've thought about doing that myself and if you happen to be close enough we could experiment with mine.

I asked the aglime supplier here and they weren't sure it would work. Their big spreaders have a really wide chain and they thought that maybe a salt spreader would have too narrow a chain to prevent bridging of the material.

The piles of aglime are stored outside and get wet and are pretty clumpy.

That's the best I can offer but let me know where you are and maybe we can work it out to try an experiment.

Won't get an accurate spreader with many of them. To powdery. They will spread in spurts.

Groetech made a tailgate one that had an adjustable gate on it.

A standard hopper sander with a bed chain should work fine as long as you can close the gate down. The commercial operation that has done my fields spreads fertilizer and lime in the sumer and salt/sand in the winter months. I am going to try my Topkick with the tailgate sander this fall. Not sure if the auger will work quite as well though.
