My battery went dead today on my 2000 dogde 2500, original battery.
I plow with the truck and run a salter.
Just wondering if any would reccomend a battery for this truck.
I was thinking of those tube looking battery in different colors. I dont reme, mber the name.
Thank you.

Your probably thinking of an Optima ? They are good, and will work OK,but they aren't really all that big. They are also more expensive.
You can fit a group 27 battery in the tray, which is a decent size.I'd recommend an Interstate MPT 27.It has 750 CCA's and a reserve capacity of 135 mins.
If you really want a bigger better battery, then go with a Group 31,like an Interstate 31-MHD.It has 950 CCA's and 195 mins reserve. You will need to trim the ends of the battery tray, and widen the hold down to make this one fit.
Have the charging system checked,as it may not even be a bad battery, but something else.

chris thanks for your response.
I think your right about the charging system.
I tryed jumping the truck and it would start as soon as i give gas to drive it dies. Could it be the alternator? It only has 67,000 miles

DieHard..........
Stay away from Auto Zone.
Those Optima don't have enough juice for you, you will need 2 to replace one in your truck.
While you are at it, why not put a second batt in the truck.
If the truck runs with a dead batt and give it gas, then dies, then you have another problem. It should run without a batt, off the alt.

Yes,it sounds like you have a charging system problem. It could be the alternator, but you should have it checked by a good shop,as that alternator is controlled by the PCM,which could also be bad.
Double check and clean all your battery connections, just to make sure.
Also check for a blown "ALT" fuse in the PDC on the drivers side inner fender.

Did you ever have the charging system checked ? Replacing the battery will temporarily fix it,until it gets run down again.
