I'm thinking of getting a tailgate salter, but I'm not going to be heavily into that end of the business.

I saw one made by Buyers at Canadian Tire for $699.

Is this thing any good? I'm only going to be doing a handfull of places, so I don't want to lay out a lot of money on a commercial-grade machine.

It holds 300 pounds of salt, which is plenty for the places I will be doing. I think it will beat shoveling salt off the back of the truck in freezing cold weather.

I have this unit - they have another unit that is the same and costs about $200 less because it does not have the variable speed control. If I was to buy again I would get it w/o the control. The big question is where you are applying the salt - the unit spits out at least 30' so I need to build a deflector to keep the spray withing a 12' spread. It's pretty easy to hook up and many of the parts are stainless. I still have not made back my $ on the investment I charge double the cost of the salt to apply. I would recomend this unit the only other thig is that it's slow it takes about 10-15mins if not longer to drop the full 300lbs. Hope this helps:D
