Hey all, I'm new to the board and I have a tough question to get things going...

This is my first major restoration. I have a 74 chevy crew cab, which was orginally 2wd, but was converted to 4wd. It had a SB 350 - TH 350 - NP 205. I've pulled all three and was hoping to use a 454 - TH 400 - NP 205 out of a 78 suburban 2wd. In my inexperience I didn't know the TH 400 would not bolt right up to the NP 205. Now I don't know what to do.
I've done some research and found out I can get some sort of an adapter, but I still have to change the transmission for it to work. Anyone have any ideas? I still have the TH 350, but it is broken and would need to be rebuilt.

Thanks, Brett

Your transfer case should be a 27 spline male input, which will fit onto the TH400,but it requires an adapter kit,and changing the input gear on the NP205.It's expensive and a lot of work.

If you want the TH400 and the NP205,look into getting a newer 205,that will bolt right up.It would be a 32 spline female, and was used in a lot of the one tons in the early eighties.Sell your case on Ebay to offset the cost of the right transfer case.

Or build you a nice 400 Small Block and use existing hardware. With some 4.10 or 4.56 gear it would run pretty decent. It you stay with a 454 and THM400 I would also consider using a different type Tcase as well to ease your conversion.

Thanks for the great information Chris. I'll start checking around for a newer Transfer Case. Much appreicated.
