I was at the quarry the other day and as I was getting loaded, this old FWD pulled in. I've never seen a set back axle model before, and never with Super Singles up front. I would guess it was a former municipal plow truck, but all evidence od gear has been removed. I didn't get close enough to see what engine was in it or any other details, if I see it again I'll ask about it.
I thought Jay and Bill would get a kick out of it.

That truck is gorgeous. That short wheelbase would make for one rough ride though.

Thats an awsome truck. Looks like it would be great for delivering materials on narrow streets.

I saw the truck again the other day at the quarry and got to talk to the owner. It's a 1966 model, formerly a tractor and one of only 12-15 made. It's got what he says is a 766 cubic inch V-8 Cummins in it, I forgot to ask about the tranny.
When he said it used to be a tractor, that jogged my memory a bit. about 25 years ago I remember seeing a tractor like that owned by our County Highway Dept. It used to pull a short pup rock trailer around. They've still got the trailer, but an old Mack 4 x 4 pulls it now. This truck may have been that one.

That is a nice truck. :shades I always wanted to visit a quarry, thats where you can see some HUGE trucks I hear. If any of you guys are there quite often and see the real big earth movers, it would be cool if you snapped some pics and posted them up for all to see. There needs to be something else in the picture though, so you can see the size difference between say a homeowner truck and one of those things. Mike :)

The place pictured here is called Dutchess Quarry & Supply, they sell stone, asphalt and concrete. It's been in operation for about 70 years and is still going.
They use old Euclids as quarry trucks with V-12 Detroits in them that really scream! I live about 15 miles from the quarry, but I can here those Eucs climbing the hill to the crusher on a still day!
They've got Michigan, Cat and Volvo loaders of various sizes, the Cat 988 loads the quarry trucks, 2 Michigans load contractor trucks and the Volvo keeps the concrete and blacktop plants supplied.
I'll get pics next time I'm there.

You want to here the funny thing about this quarry the neighbors that were near it did not want the owner to start producing asphalt there I think that's what made him sell out evenetually. They did not want any more truck traffic now they will be getting at least 1,600 cars from just this one condo building a day plus all the other land that is left for development which is alot. so now instead of having maby 500+ trucks a day they now have alot more that will be cloging everything up .
