Guys,

Well it happened again.... I have had a couple of issues with my 98 K2500 6.5 lately... thought they had gone away.... well what I was getting as of lately was if the motor was hot and I stop the truck and then go restart it... occasionally ( ever so often....) it would stumble or shut off... then be fine...

well today... I go to stop and try and fine something for a customer ... go to restart the truck... it will start for about 10 or 15 sec.. then dies... did this for a while... then... it just would not turn over... cranked.. but nothing more than that... would not restart... so called the hook to bring it to a chevy dealer... hopefully its the injection pump as that is covered under warranty....

If that is what is wrong.. then it will be the second pump in about 2 years and 25K miles.... becoming less of a gm diesel fan .......

I may find out tomorrow if they can try to diagnose the truck... when I first called... they said we could get it in end of next week... ouch....

I will let you know ... .hopefully soon

Pete

Thinking about looking on the other side ... for a different diesel...

Well I just got a couple of calls from the dealership... at first they called saying what was the problem again.. it started every time for us...

now that I had them running it for a while... they believe it to be a lift pump... so that is what they are replacing ... we will see...

Well

Now they called back.. they changed the lift pump... but it still died out.. so they are also changing the injector pump...

Hummm ... makes me think though... oh well at least its not in the middle of the winter season when it happen... right now... I can push back some scheduling...

Alright,

Well if any one is following this saga...

The dealership called back... they have replaced the lift pump, the injector pump.. then they restarted it... and oh.. it now looks like the oil presure switch is bad...

huummmmm ... I heard a reg flag in my head.... does not sound right ..

They said ... we can replace the oil presure switch .. for $34 dollars.. no labor ...hummmmm

Well in talking to a couple of good friends who know more about it.. the response that I am getting so far is not pay for the lift pump as it did not solve the problem...

following the chain of events -- change the lift pump no difference...
change the injector pump... ok.. kinda...

change the oil presure switch.. ok...

What are anyone elses thoughts on this....

Pete, I had mine do the very same thing this last time - start and run for a couple of minutes, then die.

Now, when it was the injection pump, it died and that was that. It wouldn't restart. Had that happen twice.

Then when it did like you're talking about, it really stumped a couple of good mechanics. He replaced the fuel pump. That didn't do it, but getting a new pump was ok with me, anyway. What it turned out being was it wasn't getting any fuel from the tank(s). Mine has dual tanks. Whatever takes diesel from the rear to the front tank isn't working. So, when the front one ran out, it died even though the gauge read almost half full. It was getting just enough fuel so we could see the diesel pumping through the filter, but not enough to get it going.

They changed the injection pump cause - 1) that's what the diagnostic codes show as a possibility and 2) it's under warranty so it's not costing you anything and they can submit to GM (In case you don't know, when you have to start paying it, it's around $2,000).

I'd say they're on a fishing expedition and you shouldn't have to be paying for things that not fixing the problem. Even after it gets fixed, you might want to request a copy of the final diagnostic printout. You want to look for anything that is not within normal operating range.

I have been reading your posts and even iam begining to belive there turning your truck into a t&m job doesnt sound like much in the why of diag is being performed , Mick is right on his truck the shuddle vavle in the duel tank feature can stick half way in between cause lack of fuel presure or fuel volume to the engine, sounds to me like maybe this dealer doesnt really have any fully trained diesel techs on hand 6.2, 6.5 liters were not that tough to get fixed wish i was near your local alot of gm dealers are finding it hard to keep good diag techs on hand do to warr pay and truly a lack of work ethics , i recently started getting calls to do some diag work at my old dealer i worked for its pretty cool for once looking on the outside in :D
