Picked up an 84 crew cab 1 ton dually a few years ago and finally getting around to do some more work on it's restoration. It was originally a W. Virginia Dept. Of Transportation Stakebed 1 1/4 ton. Has originally 49k miles but was in a real bad hail storm and suffered from typical abuse from those that used it, but did not own it.
All new glass, front fenders, wheel wells, hood, front doors, tube grille, front floor boards, rockers. New brakes, clutch setup and a fairly mild rebuilt 350 with extensive head work. It's main function will be to tow one of my friend's roundy round cars or my drag car. However, sometime this summer I plan on picking up a front axle, driveshaft and transfer case from a 3/4 ton or 1 ton 4x4, for conversion. I also want to ditch the stake bed and boxes for a standard bed. The Dana 70 is narrower than a standard dually. I have a set of dually fenders, but it looks like a standard bed will be a close fit and they will tuck up nicely. May need a set of bushwacker flares or metal work, but no big deal.
Since I haven't picked up a bed yet...Can someone tell me the measurements from the center of the outter wheel well lip to outter wheel well lip, of the following bed series?
1973-1987
1988-1998
