After hearing how well snow is dealt with in Erie, from a couple sources, I was a bit let down to find 5" or thereabouts in the hotel lot this morning at 8 AM.

I did see HD getting pushed off and the trucks started showing up shortly after 8.

By the time I hit the NY line it had let up a lot and by Buffalo the roads were only wet with a little slush in places. Ran completely out of it by Rochester.

The guy I felt sorry for was the poor dude driving one of those cut down FL60 crew cab RV haulers. He was pulling an aluminum horse van and his plates had a nice orange in the center,, FLORIDA!

Well that was about 7am in NY but when we left Erie at 5am it was a white out and about an inch to 2 on the ground.

I had to post that pic because of the plow in the turnabout :D

Now, now Alan we don't plow the super 8. But, that being said even our hotels did'nt want plowed sunday. They thought it would only snow an inch or two then melt. But we got to plow anyway.

I can some what understand comericals this time a year not wanting but 5 down iin midland mich and under contract there gonna get done, iam not giving that much latitude.

I guess what really troubled me was the interstate not a dam truck anywere when i left at 530 there was at least 2 to 3 down on the intersate just a two track was all there was out there
has soon has i hit near Cleveland Ohio road trucks were in full force salting and pretreating even when it was all rain in mid state ohio the salt trucks were still loading from the salt silos along the turnpike. I guess i was just blown away that a state that sets in a snow belt lets the interstate look like that i have been caught in Tenn and Kentucky and seen what i seen yesterday anyway was good meeting you and it is neat to see a snow event in another state and how its handled .

I left Erie in the AM after hanging out at the bars (yeah I sobered up first).. Good thing I did with the motorhome. Whiteouts for a while, I managed to out run it for a while untill I got to NY southtowns, Buffalo wasnt bad. It handled suprisingly well in the snow but man does it have some major wind drag.... Woulda stayed the night but didn't wanna rick it too much never driving something that big in the snow before... Hardly anything stuck to the pavement up here.

PennDOT only uses I think 6 trucks to cover the 46 mile stretch of I-90 between NY and OH.

Here are a few articles about it

I was at Microtel down on Peach St. and it wasn't plowed either. Do you have a 4/1 end date on oru contracts or are they per push accounts? We rolled out at 2 this morning because we had 4" plus down and still snowing. It was push and salt here in Milton and only a salt event in Burlington, by 6 AM there was close to 6" here but only an inch or so only something like 13 miles away.

Glad you got one more in Alan. It should cover your trip to Erie.

We took 90 west to 79. It was one lane, with two black and wet strips. Not too bad, traffic was moving at about 45. Got to 79, and traffic was moving at 50, road was the same 2 wet strips.

We made it out to Erie in about 6 hours, and I didn't want it to take 11 going home with the snow, not after 4 hours sleep Saturday night. Myself, wyldman and Johnny were at Krispy Kreme until 1 am Sat night. When I went to bed it wasn't snowing yet, and it was across the lake on the radar.

Now, if we had someone to watch the kids Sunday night, I would have loved to try out Jerre's plow.

Here's what we faced coming home on 86. This was the good section. Prior to this there was about 1" of hard packed ice on the pavement. I was really surprised at the condition of the highways, in NY we don't see that happening, too many hungry attornies.

These potos give you a false sense of security and tempt you to travel at higher speeds. Trouble was thewind was blowing pretty good causing unexpected drifts. The temperature was such that the bridges were pretty slick when the road surfaces were fairly good. Made for an interesting trip home!

We saw this around 10 am just out side of Erie.

There is an eightreen wheeler behind the tow truck.

And the picture of it is on the other camera.

No we dont have end dates but we do allow for customers to call alot of the shots this late in the year, It just builds better relationships in the long run. We just stay in constant contact with them. It really does work to our benifit though, it gives are guys time to concitrate on the 24 hour plazas instead. With limited people you can get ahold of this late you just have to set your priorities and if the customer wants you to wait it works for us.
