I have an appt to go test drive it this saturday, im not fond of buying a truck that already has a plow on it but this seems like a good deal for a 350 with a v10 with luck i can talk them down a little more too.

The Kelley Blue Book Suggested Retail Value represents the amount an auto dealer might ask for a specific vehicle. Popularity, condition, warranty, color and local market conditions will be factors involved in determining a final price. This retail value is not a trade-in or private party value.

That is a good way to hagal with them if you know the KBB on it then you have a leg to bargin with.As far as the V10 hope you have deep pockets as good as the power is the millage is not.Could be a reason why it was traded got to wounder why they are traded ??

Gas is a pretty big issue for me as i can use two tanks a week sometimes more and with the prices going higher OUCH.But a v10 would be some nice power..The guy at the dealer said the truck is really nice power everything, minute mount plow he was unaware of how much it was plowed..My 90 f250 is about on its last legs. This would be a big improvement i plan on checking it over good before i jump the gun on buying anything.

If it were me, I'd probably pass. I'm willing to bet that those 50,000 miles are all hard, or at least above average. I would also steer away from the V-10, although it may be cheaper than a similar truck with the powerstroke, or even similar Dodge or GM trucks, the fuel savings will quickly pay off, especially if the price of fuel rises as it is predicted to (Don't they predict that every summer?)

Find out if you can have the name of the previous owner, call him and ask him about the truck, thats about the only way you're going to find out why it was traded. The dealer here had no problem telling me, although there might be different policies where you are.

take a look at the plow also. They can usually give away a few clues as too what sort of use it has seen. Corners of moldboard, are they worn ? If they are probally a commercial plowing vehicle, commercial curb too curb lot clearing will wear em down. How about the cutting edge also ? Is it worn down pretty heavy too? Does it smile, (wear pattern) Smileys happen from lots of windrow use. Also any moldboard damage? Usually homeowners dont hit man hole covers or what have you, maybe a few rocks but not your commercial type wear and tear.

Thanks for the tips i pretty much expected to do all this.My first truck was a 90 f250 that was already plowed and sanded with and now has 170 k miles so either way it should be a big improvment..The plow and front end is my area of main concern you can kind of see from the pic the plow has some rust but thats expected. The dealer had nothing but good stuff to say about the truck but he also wants a sale.

Don't be too concerned about the fuel mileage unless the rig has the optonal 4:30 axle ratio. The 3:73 standard axle ratio will give you nearly the same miles per gallon as a 5.4 V8 if you don't hot rod. When your working them probably no difference in mileage. The 99-01 v-10 did have an issue with some spark plugs blowing out with the threads. It was one of those random problems so get the dealer to put new plugs in even thought most leave them for 100K. If the truck was a 7.3 it would be $3,000 more. All the power options use the same trans with a few upgrades such as more clutches, so time will tell if you have a good one.

I like it! :shades Thats a beautiful looking truck and plow combo. I'd rather have the V10 over the standard 5.4 motor without a doubt. The 5.4 is a little underpowered to be in such a big truck, besides having alot of gasket problems and sparkplug problems. Randy, are you sure the V10 suffered the same sparkplug problem as the V8's did? I know the 5.4 heads have very few sparkplug threads in them and the plugs like to shoot right out whenever they feel like it. For 2003, they finally addressed this problem with a newer design head with atleast twice as many threads, about time. Mike

Ya the early V-10's but only in rare cases. There are a lot more v-8's out there so more people are just more aware if something odd happens. I like the V'8 and get good service from them but they are abit small for these trucks at 330 cu.in. If your going to work them the V-10 is good value and close in cost of operation cost to the V-8. I am going to replace my 03 as soon as I can order an 05 and it will a V-10

'99 is the first year of the SD, I have one this year and wish I did not buy it. Many problems that were resolved in the '00 and '01 models.

If anybody in mass is willing to go take a look at this truck and report back its located at Millbury Ford Mercury in Auburn,Ma. I havnt had the chance to make it up there yet and would hate to make the trip tp find out its garbage. It looks really nice in the picture, but i know after looking at about 20 trucks now that they can look totally different in person.

Did you do a Carfax on it? That should give you some more info too. Ask the dealer for the report, sometimes they will provide them, or you can easily enough get it yourself. Good Luck.
