I have just bought a 1974 GMC Jimmy. Full convertable body real solid, could not put a screwdriver through body anywhere. This truck was stored for 18 years and oiled regular before that. This truck has a 6 inch lift.I am sending it in to get painted and then I am going to take the 454 out of my 81 blazer. It's got flat tops ovalport heads, 5:1 lift cam, it kicks up some major foot pounds. I am wondering if the body sitting up so high will it shake loose if I pound it? Both trucks are 4x4 but the 81 has 205 case with turbo 400. 74 has 350 and 205 case.

The truck should be fine, lifted or not.Anytime you lift something, the center of gravity moves up,and the vehicle becomes less stable. As long as you drive accordingly,it will be fine.

Sure sounds like a nice truck. Are you gonna keep the 400\205 behind the big block ? It would be a good idea.

Everything should be fine except axle wrap when you:burnout

short note: blazers lifted of that era sometimes developed a crack in the frame on the right front rail just ahead of the axle. Something to check out for safety's sake.

The frame cracks usually appeared right behind the steering box. There are patch plates and braces available to solve the problem.

any GM from 73-87 can crack around the steering box. If it's not cracked now get the plate or a box brace. Check out Off Road Design. The guy has a nice set up for fixing and solving the problem.
