View Full Version : Buyers salter motor
I had to get out and kick start the motor on my salter several times this morning (Buyers TGSUVPRO). I only run bagged salt through it, and it has been good for about 5 years. In any case, I think a new motor might be in order. Motors seem to come in various outputs in terms of: 1/8 hp, 1/6 hp, 1/3 hp, and 1/2 hp that I could find; (there are a lot listed for this application, but many don't list the hp. Anyone have a source for a beefy motor for this application. I wouldn't mind going a bit bigger than even the 1/2 hp... I can do some fabrication to mount if needed as long at the shaft is the same and it is 1000 rpm.

Becareful "upgrading" the motor, besides what Buyers recommends for it. You may fry the controller if you go larger.
Your motor is cheap @ $90, i'd replace them every year for that.....
If I were still using the controller, I would agree with that. It burned up about three years ago. I always ran the thing at full speed, so ran a direct fused, relayed, line from the battery to the salter. A switch on the dash kicks the relay on. A lot of the motors out there aren't advertized relevant to amps or hp. I think the original was a 1/2 hp, but am not sure.
