Those of you running V's should check your Minute Mount points on the truck. I believe they are common to all the Fisher plows, but the V is a lot heavier. This is mine after the plowing the last few days. I noticed a small crack earlier in the season and put a spot of weld on the crack but didn't reinforce it

That is a very difficult connection to prevent cracking on. I assume that the horizontal section is welded "all around" to the vertical members during fabrication. The loading is concentrated on the very tip of the horizontal plate and stresses the weld at that location more than anywhere else. Once cracking is initiated at the tip the stress transfers progressilvely along the connection, seperating the beads along the sides of the vertical member.
Proper repair should entail removing any areas of cracking to base metal and clamping the seperation back together. All paint and rust should be removed from the weld zone and adjacdent areas. Welding would probably be done best with around 200° of preheat followed by 7018 or 11018.
The factory welds were probably done with MIG and there is the chance that a lack of fusion caused the initial failure. Removal of the cracked area should extend far enough into sound weld to remove any areas of possible initial defect. If you are grinding on a bad bead and it turns blue from teh heat there is a very high probability that there is a lack of fusion under the bead that is keeping the grinding heat in the bead rather than letting it dissipate into the base metal.

Bill your running a 9.5 v correct? This might have something to do with the cracking since the 9.5 weighs even more than a standard 8.5 Vplow. This coupled with the amount of plowing you guys are doing might be the cause of the fatigue crack. My mounts look fine as far as the welds go but I will be on the look out for this problem. Thanks for posting.

Should you go with a new truck mount ? If heavy plowing has them lasting a few years the part could become a maintenance replacement piece .

nsmilligan, is that mount original to your older 8.5 Vee, or did it go on more recently with the 9.5?
Either way, its an area I'll now watch closer. Just ran out to the garage and mine looks fine. Thanks for the photo.

The mounts are on their 4th winter. They are the same part # for both the 8.5 and 9.5. The other side has a small crack starting in the same area. I'm going to either replace or rebuilt them this summer.

Snowfall in four Nova Scotia Winters probably equals twelve down here in the warm country. Guess I should be safe for a while. Thanks for the response.
