I have a 99 chevy 1 ton dump diesel 28,000 milesl, used for landscaping, pulling enclosed double axle trailer.

I want to have the truck to have basic mainteance done. Trans fluid, axle gear lube.

What other things may you guys suggest in maintance for this truck?

Also this truck last year a couple of times while I would be driving at 35 mph. I would give it gas to accelerate and it would just shut off completly. So then i would carefully slow down put it in park and it would start immediatly. Full tank of gas. What could it be?

I appreciate your opinions!!!!!!!!!!

I would suggest having all the fluids changed , oil, tranny, radiator alxe etc.... Also have a set of plugs/ wires cap and rotor put on. Fuel system service also. The fuel filter may be plugged and might have caused the truck to quit on ya.

Dont worry about the plugs and wires on your truck ;)

Dont forget about the fron end too, change its fluid and grease every zerk. Uses some spray lithium grease stuff on your hinges and such. I would use conventional fluid in the trany but synthetic everywere else. Change the fuel filter. You should change diesels more often than a gasser. Might wanta look at your belts and hoses too. I usualy like to replace my belt before it starts to look ugly and throw it in the truck as a spare.

One common problem on those trucks is rust buildup under the front ABS sensors. It involves pulling the hubs, and cleaning and greasing the sensors. It should be done every few years to prevent erratic ABS operation.

The problem with the engine is the PMD or pump mounted driver. Dont even mess with it, find a decent GM dealer and have them replace it. You have an 11 yr 120000 mile extended warranty on any injection related component. Also clean and check the poss terminal on the pass side battery. They corrode and lead to poor charging.

Might want to consider a tank of #2 in place of gas too!:wink

For some reason I want to say the extended 11 year 120k warranty is on 94-98's.

Steve,
I was going to use the same joke but thought better of it. The warranty may very well indeed be 11/ 120K, but it does cover the entire injection system. The warranty also has been extended to cover all 6.5 EFI engines.
