My '04 Boss 10' V suddenly quit tonight. We were on one of the last driveways and it will not run. Solenoid is clicking, test light shows power to the motor, assuming that the motor has burnt out.

It looks like a standard starter motor, if it is, anyone know what to call it so I can call the local Napa?

If it isn't, I'm screwed. Two more storms lined up and on their way between now and Monday night.

Bad night for my Boss plows, new one lost a spring.

Plowed 14 hours today, ice under everything, 10" of fluffy stuff.

Did you try booster cables to the stud and ground Alan? Just thinking maybe one of the cables has an internal crack that will pass voltage but no amperage. Or the disconnect plug has a similar problem.

I'm almost positive you can't get one out of Napa.
Dealers have them priced anywhere from $250-400 and they usually try to sell you the whole unit-pump/motor. Becareful taking it off there is a little keyway type thing in there on the end of the motor.

I know this doesn't help, cause you need it asap, but CPW is the cheapest price I have found them for. The CPW ones work great, I have them on 2 plows and they have been flawless for 4 yrs. & you can get 2 for the price of one.

Alan if you have any light truck trailer supply stores around give them a try,i BELIEVE (think!) it's just a Barnes pump/motor,a lot of small dump trailers and truck inserts also use them, maybe they would yank one off for ya or have one

Alan: You can use a motor from either a Haldex Barnes or Monarch power unit on your Boss Plow.
Make sure you drill and tap a hole for your ground cable directly into the motor case if you get one without a ground terminal.
 John...

Check your local Farm & Tractor store and WW Grainger.
They both sell knockoff plow motors (at least for western and fisher)
and may carry a Boss unit.

Look at this Boss/Prestolite motor cross reference list:

This weird. I just had the same problem on my Boss V. Solenoid would click (so switch was working) but no go on the pump. Figured out it was the main power cable plug. My cable had gotten pushed an awkward way when I put the plow on. I pulled my connectors loose. Cleaned well & added dialectric grease. Put back together. All is working for now. I will likley replace the main power cables at the end of the season. Sooner if they cause any more trouble. Pretty much what Deere John said. Try that for a cheap fix first. Good luck.

Sunday afternoon I pulled it apart. Wasn't pretty.

Found that my new pump unit on my dump trailer uses the same motor, so I scavanged that.

Spoke to the man in the know in Erie this morning, he gave me some tips on improving and upgrading.

Can't post the pics. My new camera labels all the pics as .img. Anything .img won't load here, wtf?

Sorry I didn't get on and see this sooner Alan. I have 2 of them in stock and not priced anywhere near $400.
