I am finally working on a project that I have dreaded for over 5 years.
First I bought a new roll away tool chest. Spent about 8 solid hours organizing and setting up the roll away the way I wanted and sifting through all my sockets, wrenches and tools.
I have way to many, but I know where they all are now. Mostly craftsman and SK. (fred I can not imagine the amount of money you have invested in mechanics tools) I know that I have quite a bit invested in my little garage.
Anyway I then attacked the fasteners. For the last few years its been easier to buy new fasteners than to search for the ones that I already owned.
Well I now know where most of those are now. Still have allot to sort through.
In all I have spent almost 3 days and am only about 1/3 done. Its is getting better tho.
I have removed 5 skid steer bucketds of trash. 1 bucket of scrap steel.
Part of the issue is that I absorbed allot of stuff from dad, some of which should have been thrown out along time ago.
I also have a mini van load of hand power tools that are outdated and will be sent to ebay. Maybe someone will want it.....
To be continued

We try to stay on top of the shop, but it's been a little more difficult this year. My brother managed to get the work bench cleared off last week - found a few things back!

It's always a chore to keep things neat - but it is imperative to stick with it, or it gets away from you too quickly. It becomes even more difficult through the summer months, so we make a point of cleaning up at the end of each week. If we don't, others start to see the opportunity to let things slide, and it gets out of hand very quickly.

I like to take a couple days every early spring and do a big cleanup - usually fill up the dumpster pretty quick. I've been accused of being a pack rat, but I'm learning to let go of the junk a little quicker.

Last year we spent almost the year getting our tool box organized. We were in the same boat as a lot of guys with tools everywhere, trucks, trailers and the big one lent to employees. I now have it all in a locked box that we puchased last year. The box was a Snapon (repo) we paid 1/2 that it was worth every dime. I just came in from changing a tire and it was a breeze when you can find the right tools. I enjoy working now when i don't have to go crazy looking for stuff.
