My new plow rig. 1970 K20. I really want to put a Blizzard on it but I'm really afraid of the amount of modifacations it will take to work. So I might just put my Meyers C-8 from my 2wd dump on it. I just got finished putting it back together. I have all summer to work out the bugs in it and it'll be ready for next winter.

Still needs body work and painting, but I'm more concerned about the reliabilty or the truck first. Cosmetics are second.

Wow that would look great with a Blizzard CUSTOM fabricated to it!!!!

Find a pair of the old Round Plow lights and make it a Retro Look :)

I'm with Jay. That would look great with a Blizzard, and the round-retro style headlights and turn signals. Great ol' truck!! What's it got for an engine and tranny?

truck looks good, gotta love the older trucks they go forever! i agree with the blizzard and round plowlights. whats the engine, 5.7l 350?

Plower737

It has a 5.7 350 goodwrench motor. Freshly rebuilt TH350 tranny with stage one shift kit and trans cooler. Eaton rear with 4:10's and a Dana 44 front axle. Just not sure about plow yet.

I may have to get up with Jerre about mounts for this old of a truck. I might just take the plow setup off my dump and put it on this truck. I really need a v-box for next year so, maybe the blizzard setup will have to wait. That and I need a front axle with disc brakes.

Still looking for a good set of 3/4 ton axles. Plus I don't have much time being the lawn season and all to do anymore work on the truck lately. I start it now and then and run it around the neighborhood, ( no exhaust, bet the neighbors love that!)

Just an update... got rears out of a 86 k2500 and currently putting new bearings, seals, and calibers on. Thinking more and more , that the meyers setup will be going on this truck. Really need a new spreader for the season. BUT, I am going to find round head lights for the lighting system. And of course, flowmaster exhaust!

Here's the round lights you need. Apparently somebody got a whole mess of these as they keep selling them as individual sets as well as small lots. A couple months ago they had tried to sell a lot of (I think) 100 sets.

Thanks for the props guys. I CAN"T wait to get this thing on the road. Still working on the rear stuff. I'm hoping that the 86 springs will mount directly to the 70 frame with little to no modifications. Just working on it here and there. Hope to have it on the road by the end of Aug so I can make sure all the bugs are out of it and maybe have it painted before winter.

Just an update:
86 rears....all bearings shot!

So took spindles off, had new balljoints pressed in and in the process of taking the drum brake hardward off the Dana 44 and putting the 86 spindles on that. Bought those lights off of ebay....BIG THANKS to ALAN!
only have 2 leafs in the front so I'm going to add 2 more leafs all the way around. Started taking th mount off of the 83 c3500 to mount on the 70. Need to take the monarch pump out of the 3500 and get it rebuilt so I can have an under the hood pump. Thats about it for now. Here are the pics of the lights...

How are the cab corners , rockers , floors and cab supports ?
I have a big block radiator( almost new) , shroud and fan clutch (new and fan if you need them . They are from a 3/4 ton suburban I think everything fits .

Everything is VERY solid except cab corners and rockers. It came with new ones but the guy didn't have time to put them in. Right now I'm converting the front drums to disc out of a 86 k2500. With a Dana 44 up front and a full floating Eaton rear I should good to go.

Been a while so I fiqured I'd update. Front end steering work done. Rear springs are installed. Since the leftover stuff of Hurricain Jeanne is hitting us tomorow, I'm adding the front leaves. Center "hump" for the 4wd is in. I'll try to remember to get pics of the inside and rear work. Now that I added the extra leaves, the shocks are too short! Gotta get some of those too!

OK, got some pics of my fabrication of the plow mount. I'm no expert welder so be easy on me guys. I'm mounting the plow mount to the frame and then adding bolt on "drop pieces" to bring the mount down to the right height for the plow. Here go the pics...

now that is coming out awesome. the round plow lights really make it look cool. so what kind of plow are you putting on the truck you took that plow off of?

Plower737
10-12-2004, 04:01 AM
The plow came off of an 83GMC C3500 dump. I hate plowing with it because it's 2wd and stick. Knee is killing me after about 2hrs. We do alot of small commercial parking lots so its back and forth....back and forth. No plow going back on the 83. Going to sell it in the spring for an Iszuz cab over.

After a very extensive and almost endless search, I have FINALLY found a 70 c20 with the same rear drum size as mine! The rear was a dana 60, (mine is an Eaton) but the drums were the same! better yet, the donor truck had 50,000 miles on it! hasn't been on the road since 1980! Drums were in perfect shape. They are at Napa right now being turned and will be put on the truck Tuesday. So now I can get the exhaust done and get it tagged and insured and ready to go to work. I'll post more pics when I get more.
