My 04' 2500HD crewcab came in yesterday and I was checking it over.
The spare tire is a different tread pattern than the other tires on the truck. I paid the extra for the m/s offroad tires and the spare is just a normal tire.
On my 02' & 03' the spare tire matched the others on the truck.
So after looking at the other trucks on the lot, I noticed they are all the same way. My dealer said it's GM's way of keeping the costs down. They told me and others to call the 1-800 number and file a complaint.
What do you guys think ?? should I call ?? or just forget about it ?
btw GM decided to include the in cab wiring for the brake controllers in the 04's

would call and complain but I would make the dealer change it out .When you ordered the spare did it say a/s or a/t .Just seams strange that they would do that even to save some money.

Any full size spare should be the same as the other tires . My Dodge has optional tires , I will have to see if the spare matches

Well I guess they figure a spare is a spare.and with the donuts they used to have I guess the figure it OK.
I always use my spare for a 5 tire rotation,I have an 03 so I am just wondering also if its a different tire.I am just coming up on my first tire rotaion and will be disapointed if its not the same size.
I would write a letter with your disatisfaction with a incorrect tire being used as a spare. If enough consumers would take the time to let people know of our disatifaction they will start to understand that there decistions to save money have consaquences as in unsatified customers. If no one complains then some bean counter gets an ataboy for saving GM a bundel

Hi CAT320 i have those mirrors on my truck, there great,i never need to scrape ice off,and i love the power mirrors, the only drawback is that they stick out so far you have to be carefull in tight spaces,it's a good thing they will swing in or i would have torn one off by now.

Called 1-800-chev-usa today and tuesday my tire will be replaced with the same m/s tire that I bought extra for the truck.
Cat320--I had those mirrors on my 03 and bought them for this one too. I love them, they come in real handy when I put the 28' enclosed trailer on. Just watch out because they do stick out pretty far and I have whacked the the poles at the bank drive throughs. Not sure about the tranny deal..haven't heard of anything recently. My 03' hydromatic held up with no probs and I just traded in the truck with 37,565 miles. Only took me 1 yr and 3 days to reach that milage :D

I went for a walk down the final line today and checked under 10 trucks and the spares all matched what was on the truck but on a steal rim, also interesting enough all 10 had the power mirrors on them.

I did'nt hear anything more on the problems so maybe it was just a bad rumor.
I getting an '04 Z71 SLT GMC E. Cab with optional 17-inch wheels and the spare is a 16-inch steel wheel and tire per the invoice. Does not bother me, I have never needed to use a spare tire since back in the 80's. I'll bet that is going to po of a few people.
I have choice of 2 trucks equiped same (dealer trade)m 1 built in Pontiac and the other in Oshawa. Dealer told me Oshawa trucks are not shipping due to rail labor problems in Canada.

Hot off the press: an article by Hib Halverson in the April 2004 edition of Hemmings Muscle Machines.
"Which does the J.D. Power Initial Quality Study say is the best assembly plant in North America? It's not a Toyota or Honda facility. It's GM's Oshawa #1 plant in Canada, which builids the Impala and Monte Carlo."
Just wondering if it's the same plant that would build you a Z71 SLT GMC.
By the way, if you haven't seen a copy of the Hemmings Muscle Machines, I highly recommend it. It even has trucks. This issue has a '91 GMC Syclone with its turbo-charged 4.3 six and an '84 Dodge Rampage with a one-of-a-kind 2.2 liter turbo-charged four.

Not a rumor, I just called my friend who is a GMC dealer and he said there is a hold on HD trucks with these 2 transmissions, (MT1) 4L80-E and (MN8) 4L85-E. They all are Flint trucks. There is something wrong with the case, supposed to have 2 provisions for something and only has 1, net result No OD function. Dealers can't sell any trucks untill to verify the trans has the correct case. So none have got into customers hands it would seem.

Yes, Oshawa is a big complex and one of GM most state of the art plants. There is Oshawa No.1 and Oshawa No.2.

Heard more today. Seems there was an engineering update to the pump which accidently limited the flow of oil to the od gears and causes the trans to lock up. They claim that there are only 2000 bad vehicles out there but could be in anyone of 25000 out there. It affects the chevy Express, Sierra, Silverado, Suburban, Savana, Yukon XL and W4 Medium duty. And your right they did put a hold on deliveries until they are inspected. If you have an 04 I would take it back to the dealer and have them check it out.

DETROIT, March 15 (Reuters) - General Motors Corp. (NYSE:GM - News) said on Monday that it temporarily halted shipments of some of its large pickup trucks, vans and SUVs on Friday due to a problem with the transmissions.

About 25,000 vehicles were potentially affected by a faulty pump in the transmission that could prevent lubrication from reaching overdrive gearset bearings, GM spokeswoman Debbie Frakes said.
"We detected the problem and we fixed it immediately before most of these got into customer hands," Frakes said. "We were back shipping by the end of the day."
The transmissions, produced at GM's Willow Run, Mich., transmission plant, were installed in the Chevrolet Express and Silverado, GMC Suburban, Sierra, Savana and Yukon XL and W4 medium duty trucks.
GM has notified the owners of about 8,000 vehicles that their truck may have been affected. The automaker believes that only about 2,000 of those 8,000 vehicles actually have the faulty pump, Frakes said.
