Has anyone ever experienced this:

I was just driving down the highway at about 60 mph when I hear this crunching noise coming from in front of the cab. Pull over to the side of the road and after looking for a minute I see that the fan for the alternator is busted. Only had a few thousand miles on it.

It was a high output alternator I bought and I kept my old stock one just incase...so I bolted the old one back in while I waited for a new fan to be shipped.

I just thought it was a kind of strange thing to happen. I don't know what caused it. Here's a picture:

RYAN..........Bummer!!!!
Lucky those busted pieces didn't dent your hood or rip thru
your radiator or tear up anything else ! AKA $$$$$$$

Was it a Delco alt. or another brand ?

I bought the alternator from these people:AlterStart (http://4alterstartcom.verizonsupersite.com/pages/store/skudetail.nhtml?profile=alternators&uid=10901&catuid=10155&returnURL=http%3A//4alterstartcom.verizonsupersite.com/alternators).

It's a new AC-Delco that they wound to 200 amps.

Very interesting. I can't say that I've ever seen that happen before. I assume the fan was replaced under warranty?

I've never seen or heard of that happening. Although on my 79 the actual fan shed a blade once....

BTW: In my younger drag strip daze craze I have had fan blades
and/or water pump shafts break off at high RPMS on my
big block Mopars or Chevys. And tear the crap outta everything !
But never a alternator pulley !

.....geo:mad:

Yep, replaced under warranty. I don't think the guy believed me that the fan just broke. But they sent me a new one.
