I have turned and replaced the rotors on my 2000 F350 sd 5.4 crewcab every 10-12000 miles they just keep worping. turn once then replace :headwall
Will the cross drilled/slotted rotors help???
anything, anyone?????????????

Are the lug nuts being torqued to spec.Improper torque or overtightning with an air gun can lead to rotor runout.
It could also be a bad hub.No matter how many time you replace the rotors,if a hub has excessive runout,it will feel like the rotors are warped.
Are you using good quality rotors ? The cheap ones will warp quite easily sometimes.
The other thing to check is the rear brakes to make sure they are doing their job.If they aren't,it will overload the front brakes and possibly warp the rotors.

Chris, the torque is something i will check, both hubs were replaced a year or so ago with Warn premium hubs.
We have tried bendex and ford OEM but still they warp, Rear brakes are fine and working properly.
From what I have hurd this is fairly common with this size and weight of truck, mine is around 6900lbs empty.
My guess is to keep puting the OEM's on or do you think the cross drilled/slotted worth the extra $$$ and what brand would you recomend? if any!!

I haven't seen much good cross drilled stuff out for the trucks, and I don't think they are really neccesary. The OEM braking system is more than enough when it's working properly.
When I mentioned the hubs,I meant the wheel hubs, where the rotor mounts to.If they are bent or warped, then that runout will be transmitted through the rotor, and even exaggerated (as it is further out from the center),making it feel as if the rotors are warped. You need to remove the rotors, and use a dial indicator on the rotor mounting surface to measure the runout. We see a lot of cars\trucks with bad hub mounting surfaces, and the rotors are constantly being replaced for no good reason.
I'd check the hubs first, and report back.
I'd also be curious to have one of the old rotors checked to see if they really are warped.Putting them on a brake lathe and checking them would tell you.If they aren't warped, then the hubs must be bad,and that is what is causing your pulsation.

I remember that when we take the rotors off and they are being "turned" that there are high & low spots, the turning gets rid of the high spots and evens it wit the low spots.
So it means they are warped? Right???
But I will check the hubs also.

If you were seeing high and low spots, then yes they would be warped.
I would still look into the hubs though.
Brake balance\bias should also be checked.
We turn as many as possible on the vehicle. That takes in account the hub run out also.

just read your post man rotor troubles are horr on the 00-01 models both of mine have been turned under warr then replaced the 01 which sits alot is really prone it is on its second set of rotors it only has 4500k on it the last time they replaced them the dealer said these new ones were improved and in fact the orginals hjad issues duh .
The 00 the last time i did the rotors before i sold it it was out of warr and i did the work ill tell ya what i found lower caliper bolt is seizing on this trucks which there ya go the caliper sticks just enough to warp the piss out of the rotors when i did the 00 i had to heat the bracket lots of pen oil and a air chisel to get the pin out bought new lower pins for both sides make sure you can slide the pins freely if they dont ya gotta fix them

Took the truck into a buddys shop this AM and:
hubs are fine no run out. .0001 both of them
rotors were .0017 and .0019 out. = wobble!!!
calipers both functioned fine, nothing stuck or sticking.
rear disk brakes have about 1/2 life left on the pads.
rear rotors .0002 and .0003 so they are ok. but will be replaced the next time the rears need to be done.
New front rotors (ford OEM) and pads put on.
I hope these will last a little longer then the last ones did.
oh yea i turned those old rotors less then 6500 miles ago and they were that far out ?????
Thanks guys

Had a big problem with our 2000 Excursion 4wd 7.3 at 60,oookm it was on it's 3rd set of rotors under warranty all warped excessively. We have a local hotrod machine shop that drilled the last set of OEM Ford rotors and the truck now has 213,000km thats 153,000 on these rotors. It was a very affordable fix.
