Hey guys,
Hoping someone can help decipher this one for me - it just happened, so I was hoping to have an informed opinion on Monday morning before ordering parts.
It's an '03 GMC 2500HD 4x4 with the 6.0 V8. Was running an errand this afternoon, and the throttle suddenly became unresponsive. No warning - just quit. Truck idles fine, and I limped it home in 1st (2nd downhill) gear at idle rpm.
Shut the truck off, start it back up, same problem. Starts fine.
Throttle Position Sensor? Are these drive by wire?
Might be related, not sure - Instrumentation works fine, but digital odometer display is intermittent. Really dislikes the cold.

Any codes or check engine lights?
I'm guessing dead throttle actuator control. Yes, it is drive by wire.
Most likely a throttle position sensor. It's part of the throttle pedal. If you have access to a scanner, you can look to see if you have a signal from the TPS.

Dave before you buy any parts open the hood on the back of the engine is a single black wire ground that is to the very rear center you can put your hand on it make sure that ground hasnt broke or is ready too.
ACR systems your looking for TPS A or B failure which both are built into the throttle body so replacement would be required there 250 dollars for a new GM unit here not sure up there.
Also on the left firewall is the ACr control module small black box with two harness plugs going into it also check or better yet unseat and reseat these connectors again before buying parts. Have fixed alot of 5.3 and 6.0s for just the loose or broken ground on the back side of the engine.

Ok Fred - checked those items. Ground is good, checked the plugs and reseated them on the ACR control. Truck runs fine now - guy plowed with it for 6 hours last night and no issues.
Just a little scared the solution was too simple...
Made my wooden wallet happy though!

No Problem trust me the reduced power message is begining to become a real issue but honeslty even though i stock both part numbers plus the ACR module more times than not its just a matter of reseating the controller keep in mind all meticpac terms build up resistance over time and a simple reseat corrects that.
The black ground wire also will break right at the eyelet from the engine flexing again a easy fix with a new eyelet and some ground washers.

I've also seen extremely dirty throttle bodies cause the condition. Get some cleaner and clean up the throttle plate and such. Worked for 2 family members so far, plus a couple at the dealership I work at.
