stopped at the dodge dealer today
looked at a 04 ram 2500 with a 5spd auto
any body know anything about them
its a $1100.00 option

It has 2 computer controlled overdrive gears, I believe.

its a light duty trans ,used only behind the Hemi's and 4.7 V8s. You cannot get on behind the Cummins

one thing i did notice at 70mph the motor is turning 400 rpm's less
than my 98 5.9l did
talked to the service manager about warranty
he said as long as it has a plow package they 'll
cover the drive train for 7yr-70k

John Its light duty compared to whats behind the Cummins.Its plenty for the Hemi. Dodge uses then numbers to signify the strenth of the transmissions. The current strongest Chrysler trans is the 48re they use, the 4 being the # of gears,8 being strenth in 1-10 R meaning rear drive,and E being electronic control. Im pretty sure the 5 speed auto is rated a 5 in strenth called a 5-45RFE so its not nearly as strong by there own admission. The 1996-2002 top dog was the 47REas far as strenth.

What kind of trans model I may have? How good is this trans?

I plow with it has 60,000 miles

How often do you recommend to change fluid? Any tips to make it last as long as possible.

I intend to keep the gas guzzler for a while.
