I always think a shop is the best place to have it done, let them custom bend it.

I have Edelbrick RPM on my 5.7, it sounds great, Magnaflow is also a popular mellow muffler, JEGS.com has some pretty good prices, also check with the muffler shop, sometimes they carry performance brands as well.

JMO but I dont think you will pick up much in the way of performance from and exhaust sustem on your truck. The biggest restriction is in the factory muffler so if you were to have a shop yank that and throw something else in there then that would give you simmilar gains to a full system, again JMO. That said I have put exhaust on just about everything I have owned but mosstly cuz it sounds cool  On a 97 Z 71 I had I cut out a big hole in the bottom of the muffler and choped out all the tubes and welded the hole shut. Cheap and effective but I ended up putting a spintech on instead since I didnt like the sound. You got access to a welder? I would go for the free fix first and if you dont like it then go with a muffler in place of the stocker that has the sound you want. I personally like Dynomax the like and dont really like flowmaster but that jsut me......

If you want duals you could have just tailpipes done......

I just put a Flowmaster cat-back system on my 95 K-2500. I like it a lot. The system was well thought out and easy to install. ET was just under 2 hours including removal of the old system. Performance gain; who knows? It sounds nice!

About a month ago I added an Airaid-type intake. Performance gain; who knows but I did get an additional mile to mile and a half per gallon so it was worth it to me. That gain was for around-town driving; no highway to speak of.

The exhaust has only been on for a little over a week so I haven't done a milage test yet (still on the first tank since the change), plus we've had some snow/4WD driving so it should be much less than normal.

My $.02

From what I hear and read, the newer GM's with Duals into the muffler and a 3 1/2" tailpipe is about as free flowing as you can get.

Well, not really. But by going any freer, your sacraficing low end, and only gaining a few HP above 4K RPM.

In other words, GM finally did their homework with this current exhaust.

If you want sound, then try a custom true dual setup, as I doubt you'll find a Dual 3" in and single 3 1/2" out muffler that is as long as the stock muffler.

I have a 1983 Chevy Scottsdale. Has a 305 C.I.D engine with headers i put on myself and a Magnaflow exhaust system that was installed by the local muffler shop. I went to www.magnaflow.com and searched local dealers. Then just put your zip code in and BAM!!, the closest proffesional muffler shop that installs Magnaflow. My truck sounds AWSOME!!!. Being that i am 18 and young men want better rides than others makes alot of guys jealous when they see my light matallic blue chevy that sounds MEAN!!.

I talked to ron from spintech and he sent me a muffler with cusom inlet/outlet shipped to my door in a week for 90$ shipped. I cut out the old and used to stubs of 2.75 or what ever the inlets are and welded the thing up. I wanted a stock look but a wee bit louder/deeper at idel and normal driving and for it to really wake up when I got on it. I told him what I wanted and I couldnt have been happier with what he sent me.
