A friend has a 1987 K30 (4wd) Dump truck that he converted from 4 spd standard shift to an automatic transmission. He says that he is going to sell it because he feels unsafe driving it.

He says it doesnt run right. He thinks it may be a wiring problem because he converted over from standard to automatic.

I don't know exactly what he means by "it doesn't run right" but I am in need of a 4wd drive Dump truck and this ( with a little work) would be the ideal truck.

I suggested that he contact Painless Wiring and see about getting a complete new harness.

Any other suggestions from all you gear heads out there as to what it could be?

Jeff, what are you thinking? Don't suggest how he might fix it, assure him it's probably terminal and the whole thing is so totally beyond hope that it's only worth scrap price. Then offer to take it to the junkyard for him. When you get back from the "junkyard" give him $50 and tell him that's all they would pay for it, scrap is WAY down, etc.

Make sure you get it running right and do a Maaco repaint before you let him see it again. "Nope,, it isn't your old truck, Buddy, this one runs nice and looks good. Besides, I took your old one to the junkyard and made sure they ran it right through the shredder so they wouldn't try to sell it to anybody, you remember how unsafe it was!"
