I have a long time residential mowing account that made me chuckle this past week. I came around to the back of the house to see that he hand dug a trench across his lawn and buried a garden hose from the house out to his garden. About 125 feet.

I don't know why he thought that was easier or a better idea than simply pulling the hose out there and winding it back up. I mean after all up until now I was the one winding up the hose each week so I could mow. :D Of course I did have to pick up the spade out of the lawn he used to dig it too.

Anyone else have customers do goofy things?

When I had my tree service business, I had a few calls from people who had obviously tried to take a tough tree down one their own to save $$$. Evidence (besides the butchered tree or broken fence) were usually step ladders, yellow rope, handsaws, axes, beer bottles and even one place where the box for the $149.99 cheapo chainsaw was still on the deck. The saw was dropped from the tree and the handle was cracked. Wife not on good terms with the husband on that one.

I have one account where the backyard is enclosed by a split rail fence. Last summer a woodpecker was working on the fence posts a little, they will drum on wood to mark their territory much like a dog pees to mark his. Many, including my client, also aren't aware that birds have no sense of taste or smell. My client hired an exterminator who sprayed the fence with "woodpecker repellent " and hung some foil streamers around.

When my client told me about the exterminator, I had to bite my tongue and put on my poker face. My only response was "Gee, I've never heard of that before". I had to keep from laughing out loud and didn't have the heart to tell her what I knew about birds.

I'll have to take some pictures of the things I see on my routes. It's 95% commercial accounts and I swear, I deal with some of the goofiest stuff. All coming from the customer, general public, and other trade "professionals". I think you guys would appreciate the pictures more than the words. It might take me a few days since I just cut one of my goofy accounts today. :popcorn2

This was done at a customer's request for "something unique" today. Actually came out pretty good. They even let me climb on their roof and snap the picture.

Their 3 y/o son, Caleb, called me saying he really liked what we did with the yard and apparently he's gotten lots of compliments from all the crop dusting pilots around here.
