While at the auto show in Pittsburgh a week or 2 ago, while at the Ford section found this could be coming soon they list a '05 concept with a 2.0L diesel looks like it could be a cool ride. Just wanted to share and see what you all think.

Actually i believe when they were showing that truck off at the auto show they said it would go for a rather cheap price.I forget what it was but compared to most new vehicals it was cheap.

I read a little on this.

From the March 2004 issue of Car and Driver:

"The bucking mare is back, at least as a turbo-diesel concept trucklet that harks back to the original 1965 Bronco and not the tipsy lawsuit generator of the early '80s. Ford has been studying a Bronco replacement for years. This simplified three-door is one idea (it has manual windows), although if it goes into production, it likely won't have the concept's 2.0-liter diesel four or its fast and furious nitrous-oxide injection system. It could have the concept's twin-clutch robotic PowerShift manual, though. It's a transmission that uses two automatic clutches to smooth over jerky torque interruptions during shifts. Ford promises mass production of the tranny by 2010."

From the March 2004 issue of Automobile:

"Ford Bronco. This Bronco won't buck.
Features: based on the Escape.
- 2.0-liter turbo-diesel four
- Nitros-oxide boost
- 128 hp without boost, 178 hp with boost
- 244 lb-ft of torque
- Six-speed PowerShift transmission
- Integral winch- Hydraulically actuated twin-clutch transmission, similar to Audi's DSG.
Design Commentary: The original Bronco was crap thirty-nine years ago, and no one pines for it, so why bother re-creating its ugliness? Nostalgia for a time when bad design sold well? What's next, reviving the 1960 Falcon?
Of Note: The so-called intelligent all-wheel-drive system, which inhibits binding in low-speed turns, will debut in the 2005 Escape."

Dave,

I read something about the new concept Bronco in my local paper yesterday. Maybe I read it wrong but I kind of got the impression that it was highly unlikely that Ford would go with the new style SUV. Perhaps too expensive for the market bracket that it would be introduced into??

It's very unlikely that it'll make it to production. It's a concept vehicle designed to showcase technical highlights like the all-wheel drive system and the hydraulically actuated twin-clutch transmission. We'll probably see this technology in a couple of years in Ford vehicles. Auto manufacturers come out with dozens of new concept vehicles every year and very, very few ever make it to market (Plymouth Prowler and Dodge Viper being exceptions to the rule).

I bought a 88 Bronco II in 97. It turned out to be a great little truck and pushed snow like a bandit. Sorry to say it met it's demise from a tailgator. I realy miss that truck!

A few more pics:

It appears the top is removable as with the earlier Blazers. The driver still has the roof over his head, but the cargo area becomes open.

The dash and seats are covered in suede leather, but it has a metal floor!

Might make an interesting driveway rig, if it ever makes it to production
