Trucks been idling real high (1200rpm) when in park. Then while going down the street it wants to cut out a little. I pretty sure its the throttle positioning sensor, as it threw a code the other day. Is this a hard part to change out? Looks like a couple bolts and a plug and thats it. I have read that these can get coroded and a simple fix is cleaning and electric grease.

Asap problem.... Its snowing now and were getting nine inches

There is no good way to clean the sensor. I have replaced some. It is easy to replace. Clean the butterflies also. High idle could also be a vac leak at a hose or intake gask. Has the eng. started using oil suddenly?

No there is no unusual oil usage. I was having problems with it and I read that you can re set the throttle by cycling the key on and slowly pressing the throttle to the floor and releasing then turn the key off. This immediately took care of the high idle, but at low speed it still wants to kind of do a cut out chatter. I did also noticed that at idle the fuel preasure has been normal, but when giving some good throttle it will drop down to 1-3

Im going to start checking some voltages, preasures, bad grounds, and some other stuff first. Hopefully it's some crappy plow wiring on my part causing this thing to act weird.:popcorn2

Mike thought that TPS units only had to read two things in Kentucky. Off and the floor board.

Cleaning the TPS with Brake clean or Electric contact cleaner usually get's em by for a while. They are $39.00. Take some of that salting money and spend it would ya.

Is this on a Cummins truck?

That guys has some good information. A buddy of mine bought his APPS from them and seems to have corrected the transmission hunting issue he was having. I'm not sure if this helps or not, but I wanted to pass long the info. :wink

Well. The tow trucks on the way. Truck idles with no fuel preasure. If you move it just spits and sputters

Also gave this code. P0234-engine overboost condition. It has a newer fuel pump (50k). But the lift pump was never changed.
With no fuel preasure reading on my gauges could this be a sensor.

so here is all the codes......

P0121
Throttle Position Sensor/Switch A Circuit Range/
Performance Problem

P0122 Throttle Position Sensor/Switch A Circuit Low Input

P0602 Control Module Programming Error

P0234 Engine Overboost Condition

Any Ideas on where to start looking or what to start testing:beatsme?

Thanks for the link.. I have always had that tranny hunting issue, it's a pain. Hopefully a few simple sensors will get to the root of this problem

Also pulled the fuel filter out and it was really dirty...

still looking for some help if anyone has any ideas. Looks like it's narrowing down to the APPS. Just wondering if that will make the fuel preasure gauge read zero.

My 05 truck had the tps replaced at about 50kish. It went into limp mode, and did cut out on me. It did clear out enough to limp it to the dealer. I also had the over boost code

the fuel psi is independant of the apps. If you want, go to dieseltruckresource.com. LOADS of info about the apps sensor, the tranny hunt issue, and other stuff..If you register, its free.
