I need to get a tailgate spreader over the off season. I have read many threads about the spreaders out there. I need one that will spread bulk salt and sand once in a while. Is there a unit out there that will do this? I'm really not at the point of needing a v box but would much rather deal with bulk salt. Any help is appreciated. Thanks

A Western Pro-Flo 2,or Fisher Speedcaster 2 will do the job,and hold a fair bit or material.

If you want something a little smaller, the Air-Flo MSS is a great little unit.Being a little smaller, and lower,it's easier to shovel material in to from the bed.Good if you loading bulk materials in the back of the truck, and then shovelling them into the spreader. They are also stainless,so they don't rust.

The main thing to look for is a 2 stage spreader. Some type of conveyor to bring the material to an opening where it falls onto a spinner. Steer clear of the single stage units, they clog up fast if the material isn't dry and free flowing.

Ditto what the others said. I liked the Western Pro Flow 2....

Well, if you read the threads you've seen many of us mention the Pro Flo 2's. Ditto the comments!

Lawn Lad,
You been hanging out with John DiMartino lately with that truck??

That is a great set up with the swinging gate for bagged products.Easy to load with out taking the sander off.

'94 GMC 3500 Gas... no diesel. Just a cool day. I liked that truck a whole lot. Sold it a year ago. The swing gate really made the truck bearable... we moved about 120 to 130 skids through that salter last winter. I have a Western 1000 on a pick up truck - absolutely no comparison.
