last summer my s10 was giving me troubles starting so would pop the clutch to get her going when needed till one day that wouldnt work so i parked it figuring the starter may have been shot as all it would do is click... now after sitting a few months i charged the battery and tryed starting the truck sometimes i get nothing, not even headlights and now all i get is a loud humming sound from this object in the middle of the picture, im guessing its a ignition modual?

is that what it is? would this prevent the starter from trying to turn over?
or could it be the starter or starter celenoid? Is there anyway of testing these items without taking them off and replacing them?
thanks in advance for any help

Sounds to me like you have a 12V power issue.
Have you tested the battery ? Even though you charged it doesn't neccessarily mean it's holding a charge. Check your battery cables (right down to the starter,as the starter stud is a junction point),and check the grounds too.
Relays typically tend to buzz when you have a low voltage condition,so start with the basics, and report back.

Had the same thing with our 2000 s-10. Was driving and running just fine, ran into the bank, came out and it was DEAD (other than the relay hum). Cables were questionable so we towed it in, replaced the cables, and still nothing. The battery went from working perfect, to absolutely dead in one stop (must have come apart internally). And as murphys law goes, from all the testing and trying to start it with under-voltage, the starter took a dump also:mad:.
Just buy a new truck, and it should fix the problem:D:D

well i took the battery to the shop and they tested it, came back battery was good, so i took your advise and checked all the connections, every one of them, i took them all apart and wire brushed them good and clean and put them all back together... as i sat down in the truck for the moment of truth, i was really sceptical it would start as i didnt see anything wrong with the connections, no rust or anything and all looked good, but she turned over like a champ!
1 flick of the ignition and she fired right over :drool anyway i just wanted to say THANK YOU for your help, and this is just another reason that this forum rocks, thanks again for your help:wink
