Lately my wife's 2007 FJ Cruiser (delivered March of 2006) with only 38,000 miles is start to be slow to start. It turns just like normal, but doesn't fire off right away.
Being that the battery was 4 years old, I replaced it today. I replaced the spark plugs at 30,000 miles.
What am I missing? No check engine light...

i would check fuel drain back from the fuel pump.
I don't recall any tsb's on the subject.
Haven't seen this issue..
would take a fuel fuel pressure gauge inline by the rail and sitting overnight to conform. after cranking i would imagine no fuel pressure for the set time your talking about. This would be my first guess.
I'll check my computer tomorrow if i get a chance and get back to you,..
I'm not sure on fuel pump warr. could be 3 /36 standard or one of the higher cut offs.
I would call your local dealer and ask on that.
how long a delay are you talking ??

Well that would suck..
It takes an extra 3-5 seconds of cranking
I haven't looked I assume it isn't just a schraeder fitting

I agree with the fuel draining off. try turning the key on for 2-3 seconds before trying to start to let the pump build pressure. This will confirm the partial diagnosis with out a pressure gauge, and also save some wear on the starter / battery until you get it fixed.
You will need to do some basic testing with the pressure gauge to determine if it is the pump or pressure regulator that is leaking.

Won't help.
Pump shot is less than 1/2 sec. computer programing won't allow. would have to cycle key and then more computer stuff will not all that either.
all about safety with an accident. No engine sig. no pressure.
No tsb's on this. no inside info.
Like i said call your local dealer and see what the warr. is on it. Didn't have time today.
do you have a ext.warr. ???

Thanks for looking Mike. I won't have time till later in the week. I am going to work, taking a class from 6-10pm, dealing with twins and driving 120 miles a day for a few more days.
I have never bought an extended warranty, plus it is a Toyota... the first real problem that I have ever had with my three,
If it is not a warranty item, I am going to take it to a independent Toyota specialist that always treated me right.

MMMMMMM
The first thing is confirm the condition. If it's starting ok then a quick scan for any codes in history. WE wouldn't have charged little if anything. Have to get it to happen before doing anything as far as diag goes. Unfortunately unless it's happening they are not going to replace anything.
I know how you feel. We deal with this all the time.
We would have kept it for a couple of days and tried it.

Its only fair that I got charged as they did go over a bunch of stuff (battery/fuel pressure etc)...
I just hating waiting till something fails to figure out what is wrong.
There is definitely something wrong... They are going to hold onto it till Monday and try it each day.
Good thing is that the service department is open 24hrs due to the recalls...
Makes it easy to pick up the vehicle...

I hope they were smart enough to leave the fuel pressure gauge on it and then pin the Output Relay before they turn the key.
Good Luck
