I am curious about snowfall in Michigan. I am thinking about going there in a year and a half, for mechanical engineering, and wonder how much snow you guys usually get around that part? If I decide to go there, I will probably buy the Blizzard from my dad and bring that for some extra cash. About how many events do you get per season? What is an approximate rate up in that part? Thanks all, and anybody that might have went to Michigan Tech, how did you like it?

Average Snowfall Years on Record: 12

YEAR Jan. Feb. Mar. Apr Sep. Oct. Nov. Dec
in. 177.6 45.7 28 25.3 6.6 1.8 2.1 26.2 41.9

This is what I found, they get ALOT of snow, in fact at one time this year they had like 49" on the ground, this was not drifts.

I bet they get 40-60 events. BUT then again I would bet that you would not be plowing 2" there, I bet the trigger in that type of area would be 3-4" at least.

The ~ 50 year average is 222", so I'd say you might be able to stay busy there ;)

Crimedog,

This post is a little behind but you might enjoy the reply anyway.

Houghton / Han**** are cities on each side of the River/lake running through the Penninsula that lead up to Copper Harbor. There is one bridge to get across. Follow Highway 41 to the top of the hill and you hit Calumet.

Blizzard snowplows are made just down the road ( maybe a half mile ) from the Houghton airport.

The college ( great engineering school ) has an annual snow scupture festival. They build huge sculptures all over the campus and surounding area. ( I think as a way to get rid of some of the snow )

We were there while it was thawing a few years back in Mid Feb and they still had over 30" of base snow. ( they were complaining about the lack of snow ) We left and it snowed for about a week.

I'd suggest leaving the plow with your dad. When you get to the school take a trip to the factory. Trip is about 15 miles from the school. Get a new plow put on and visit while your there.

I know several grads of the college and they all said it was a great education.

They actually get all 4 sesons even though 3 of them are short. We hit some 90deg plus days one Aug while up there.

Good luck, Jerre

Matt,
I have a friend that went there.. She liked it alot. It's a very small town. Laid back type of place. I know they have a Walmart, LOL. She did live in Frankfort, MI and that was a 4.5hr or so drive from there on up. I remember her saying once you get over the bridge the rest of the way to Houghton is all 2 lane putt putt roads with alot of bored state cops that hide back in the 2 tracks just looking for people to come buzzing by. She was speaking of experience, lol.
If your realy interested I could get you an email address for you so you could ask her more info..

As far as snow they get more than enough like everyone said..
I remember her telling us ITS SNOWWING STILL!! More often than not...
