Had a tranny cooler line start leaking the other day. It was one of the lines that runs right under the pan. There are three there, and I'm probably going to replace all three rusty lines while im there torking around.

1. I was planning on coating the new lines with rubber undercoating before installation. Will this be ok to prolong the life or is there a better way? ($220.00 for parts)

2. Any tips or tricks from somebody that has already been down this road will be appreciated.

3. I have a good hydraulic hose guy that said he could make some new lines out of rubber. 1/2 " line 300* temp. Would this be the way to go? ($60.00 for parts)

I would look into braided stainless lines. Pretty reasonable and last forever. I think Eastern Hills makes them.

I would use the alloy easy bend brake line material. Napa/Carquest type places carry it. Put a slight flare at the ends for the rubber hoses to "grab"

You should only have two tranny cooler lines. The third is possibly the vent line from the fuel tank?

There are three from what I could see. One goes from the radiator mount oil cooler to the tranny then from the tranny to a cylinder. (an engine mounted oil cooler from what I could see) then from the cylinder back to the front. One is rusted bad. The other two are not to bad, but ill be replacing those in a year or two anyways.

The dealer has the exact lines so I would probably just buy them pre bent with the fittings on there rather than trying to bend my own. If I go that route.

Poly Armor is the line I used when I replace the cooler lines on my F350. Heres a link to it. You can get it at NAPA I think. I got mine from an Advantage Auto.

I dont know if its still true but my Dodge has 1/2 inch tranny lines, unlike any other truck ive owned. and you cannot get steel lines that size around here, but I did go to a place that carries anything Gates makes, as in hydraulic stuff and they gave me that 1/2 inch high pressure *300 hose your talking about. Is really heavy duty hose and you should get the high pressure clamps if you can so you dont mangle the hose when your tighten it down..

If I do the rubber then we will probably just cut the lines and put some compression fittings on there. I'm kinda leaning this way due to ease of installation, lasting along time and easier to replace if one fails in the middle of the night.

Not to my knowledge. Recently had a brake line made up. If they have I can find somebody else that makes them. Really worth the extra in material to save on labor and replacement.

hose, made for transmission lines. Take a short piece of new brake line & screw it into the trans. & the radiator cooler after you cut it and flare it a little just long enough to clamp the hose to. Use fuel injection line clamps, it works really well, have used it for several years.

Dodge lines are bigger than most reg cooler lines, and higher pressure. Clamps or compression unions will work in a pinch, but not long term.

I usually remove the fittings at the trans to match up,and get a hydraulics shop to make up hydraulic hose to fit.

Thats exactly what we did chris. We have all new fittings and hose from the coolers to the tranny.;)
