I recently took my Truck in for service to my local GM dealer.

The Dealer replaced the front pads and turned the front rotors. My rotor specs for the front are RF 31.35mm LF 32.40MM. The rear brakes were just cleaned and adjusted. 30.86 is suposedly the minimum rotor thicknes for the fronts so how long is this brake job gona last me?

The problem i face now is the truck shakes pretty bad if i stop when i come to a stop from a good rate of speed or even just 60km. :burnout

I've been told why this could be happening but i wana have more info for when i go back to the dealer.

Thanks..

my three guesses would be brakes not adjusted evenly/properly warped rotor, needs an alignment...

I heard it could be rust that has gotten in between somewhere as well as that my rotors are on there way out. Maybe the guy who turned them didnt know what he was doing as well?

My rotors were worn pretty good, I thought about having them turned, but I went ahead and replaced them. $40.00 each and I was on my way, took about 25-30 minutes to finish up. These trucks are pretty simple, just be sure to have a set of allen sockets, they make the caliper removal go MUCH quicker.

The shake you are getting when you hit the brakes is a worped rotor. If you got it done recently i would take it back to the dealer because if they did turnit they didnt have it in the lathe right. And now adys turn rotors just is not being done that much because new rotors for a 1500 usally run $25 - $30. and they charge $10-$15 for turning. I rather buy new at those prices. The 2500 chevy will be more expencive because the hub is built in to the rotors.
But if i would you and im sure you paid good money at the dealer to get that done i would bring it back and say what the hell and fix it. They should fix it for free. I know i do if i get a unhappy customer. Which i did pay out once on a 1500.

Thanks guys..

I plan on takeing the truck to the dealer Tuesday for them to fix it.. I did pay allot of cash close to $800 for the brake job.. I duno where you can get rotors for $50 but i was told genuine GMS for a 2500 are $250 and the job will take a good part of the day.

I want to find out how much longer i can ride those rotors they are pretty close to beeing done.

I wonder if the rotors are warped and they cant be turned anymore and if they screwed them up whos gona foot the bill for new rotors and labour....

Any jobber will have second line rotors for cheap for that truck.Second line products have come a long way in the last few years, and now rival the first line (brand name) product.

Did you do the e-brake test like I suggested via PM ? It just may be the rear drums causing the vibration. You had mentioned there was a pulsation before, and it is now worse, which may have been agravated when they adjusted the rear brakes.

Regarding "discount auto parts" for the most part, those parts are just as good, and many times carry a better warranty than a factory part will. Plus, I don't have the aggrivation of dealing with the parts guys at my GM dealership, to be honest, the guys at Advance Auto are much more knowledgeable, you just need to see who to talk to. I deal only with the store manager, Asst manager and the PDQ manager. All are very knowledgeable, and they give "Preferred Customer discounts" (*Manager's Special*, 20% off almost everything in store)

No i didnt try it yet chris. I couldnt find a good spot to do it and i was kinda scared... Good think i asked someone else about the E brake cuz i would have just strated to ram it down and woud have gotten a nice surprise..

So discount rotors are ok to use as long as i dont buy them from Canadian tire eh :D ?

Try Napa for the second line rotors.National exhaust has good quality\prices too.

When using the e-brake to see if the drums are warped, you need to hold the release handle out so the brakes don't lock on.Use the e-brake pedal just like a regular brake pedal, and modulate it so it doesn't lock up.If the drums are warped, you'll feel it.I though most people knew how to use the e-brake for stopping, maybe that's something they should teach in drivers ed,in case you lose the hydraulic brakes.

Thanks Chris.

I took young drivers and they didnt teach me how to stop useing the E brake.

So use the e brake just like the regular brake's? What ya think of the 30% of Orgional GM parts from the body shop or you think they be getting me Ac Delco?

I dont know the part number for my rotors but i guess i can ask the dealer or any GM dealer.

I'll let ya know Chris.

Thanks a bunch..

What you think the life expectancy is on my rotors?

My rotor specs for the front are RF 31.35mm LF 32.40MM

As long as the rotors aren't warped, pitted, cracked,or undersize, they should last for a while under normal driving conditions.

Don't bother with dealer rotors.Go aftermarket.GM doesn't make rotors, they have an aftermarket supplier build them and then they just mark them up.

Price a good quality Wagner,Raybestos,Bendix type rotor, and then a second line one as well. You can then decide based on the price difference.
