Looking at a new GM

Is any one driveing or useing a 2004 3500HD Single Rear Wheel.

I can ether get a new 04 3500hd or a 2500hd same options on each, however the 3500hd is $35.00 more on top of the mrsp.

I'am just wonder if anyone is drive one yet, and if the ride well?

Are you sure it is 3500 instead of 3500HD? As far as I know of, there is no such thing as 3500HD for 2004 model year. The next size up from 3500 (one ton) would be 4500 series medium duty truck. 2500HD and 3500 is somewhat similar, but the 3500 has extra overload leaf spring on each side (rear) and increased GVWR. '04 2500HD has GVWR of 9200# and '04 3500 SRW has GVWR of 9900#. I have heard that there are some sights of 3500 SRW on dealer lot but the problem is that GM still cannot figure out the sticker price so at this time, no one can really buy these trucks until they have it figured out. I find this to be very odd. Why would a company manufacture and release the products to the market when they still don't know how much to charge?

Anyway I have '02 2500HD, and even though it is not exactly the same as 3500 SRW, I still would expect a good and smooth quality ride, however I would expect that the rear end would feel slightly stiffer than 2500HD when riding on bumpy highway.

Good luck with your future new truck purchase, you can't go wrong with either of them. ;)

Mirak Chevy has a reg cab one. It sits higher in the rear and has one extra leaf in the main pack and an overload leaf on top.

you are correct wxmn6

its a 3500

here the number the dealer gave me

3500

Base 33,850
Options 3,690
Destination 1,050
----------------------
MSRP 38,590 --- Price they offer was 35088

2500hd

Base 32,195
Options 5,300
Destination 1,050
----------------------
MSRP 38,545 --- Price they offer was 35,053

Both Trucks Have the same options.

That is hardly any difference. My guess is that the 3500 has less options, but the majority of them that you need. If they both have every exact same options, then how come are the options prices different? :huh

Anyway, if I were to choose, I would take the 3500 for a couple reasons: 1. Increased GVWR w/ overload spring and 2. A bit more of pride and bragging rights ;) :D

Could go Dodge get a Cummings and still be way ahead of the Chevy gas.

I was about to sign for a '04 2500HD 6.0 reg cab 4x4, when my guy called me on the phone about the Dodge, 2 day later I had the Dodge.

Most of your 3500 SRW have 1 more sping in back and charge a lot more money for them than the $42 or less it costs for the springs.

Mac I thought that I saw destination charge at around $815.

Some times your better off to get the bigger truck.when my farther was getting his work van we wanted a 350 engine it was cheaper to get it in the 1 ton than the 3/4 withboth trucks having the same options.

I would go with the 3500 for the Aux spring. Nice to have the extra spring sitting them only for when you have a load and you get the E rated tires too on the 3500.

I had a spring added to the main pack left and right on my 2500HD for $240.00 part and labor. I guess I have close to a 3500 now but would like the Aux spring.

To add alittle to the mix I would actually have to say that if this is a full time work truck look at a solid front axle like in a F-350. The empty ride quality is there in the Chevy but now that I am running my truck full time for work I wish I had the Ford. Does not help that I am on my second rear end in less than 30,000 miles on a 01 truck either. (not my fault BTW)

Also helps alot with the snow plowing and stress on the front end. Nice to be able to add a leaf to the front end if needed it over time with the plows getting beefy and bigger.

Id go for the 3500 just for the tires and the fact its got a higher legal capacity.

I've got a 9'6" V on my truck and it handles it fine......how much heavier do you want?

And take a look at the rear ends for the chevy diesels and compare em to the dodge deisels ;)

Sucks about your luck with yours though :(
