Anybody else out there having problems with the fuel guage on their Superduty?

My brothers 02' Superduty, (F-250 5.4v8 auto trans) had the fuel guage fail this past summer. No big deal. Our local Ford dealership covered it under warranty.

Now the same thing seems to be happening to my truck. It's the same set-up as my bro's.

This past wed I filled my tank. The guage stayed at the 1/4 tank mark after fill up. It eventually freed up and finally moved to the full mark. I guess the movement of driving the truck allowed the sender to move where it needed to be for a proper read. I just don't know if it may hang up again in the near future. I'll have to keep a close eye on it for now and have it checked out by the dealer.

To me it looks like it could become a recall issue on the Superduties. Anybody else?

Jake.

I have a 2000, and I saw that happen a couple of times when I did not shut the truck off while I filled it. Shutting it off and restarting reset the gauge.

Ditto to what Rob said. It happens on our 2000 F350 and F750 all the time. It resets as soon as you restart. The mileage\distance to empty computer will reset itself this way, too. They must have realized there was a problem, because our '02 and '04 move as they are filled.

Yes, I agree. I have seen that happen before. That has been a typical thing with Fords since the early eightys.
I must say that I have never seen it with the medium duties though.
Normally I shut the truck down before taking on fuel. This was a deliberate hang up on the sender. It took over a day for the guage to position itself back to where it needed to be reguardless of how many times I started the truck.
I'll keep an eye on it and see what happens. Thanks.

Jake,
My 2002 did the very same thing but maybe in a different manner. I filled the truck ran it for a few days during plowing, full well realizing I usually use a 1/2 tank or more doing this. The tank went down to 3/4s then stayed there the whole time. I took it to the dealer they ordered the part, set appointment and so on. Then of course I hadta fill it up, at the pump it took almost a full tank of diesel but didn't move the gauge. A few days later during the next snow it freed up and has been fine since. Who knows....

Jay,

That's pretty much whats happening here. The last several fill-ups have all done the same. The guage stays at 1/4 tank but then goes to the proper reading after driving the truck for two days, give or take.
I have been setting the trip-meter to keep an idea of when the next fill should be but the guage has been catching up before the tank is anywhere near empty.
The ford dealer will be looking at it soon. I will get it serviced sometime in March. They can replace the sender then.

Jake,
Yes sounds similar, as well my dealer was going to replace the sending unit but unlike yours, my truck hasn't done it again so I haven't had it changed yet.
