That style truck often had a 6 cylinder IH gas engine in it. The cab is from a Dodge pick up.

It's anyone's guess then, I drove one with a 6V53 Detroit, I've seen them with 6/71 Detroit and V903 Cummins. snojoker is right, it doesn't much matter what's in it, with diesels you can swap in just about anything without much trouble.

That truck looks like its in nice shape . Not much rust. One problem I am having with my FWD is I need to change my ft springs and they are 3.5 inches wide . most trucks have a 3 or a 4 inch wide spring . no one makes a 3.5 I am having a hard time finding a set I have been looking for a year or so. mine are not broken yet but its not going to be long.

That FWD does look to be in good shape.

The hood, side covers, grill, and fenders look to be identical to mine and its a 77'. The cab is different. Not really sure on what model that is, could be a Rb44, doubt its a CB44, the cab is not aluminum.

John - give these guys a call...Danbury Auto Spring 203 744 6577. They do all of the heavy trucks around. I'd be surprised if they can't help you. Let me know if you need me to do anything, they're close enough where I can run there @ lunch, etc.

I don't understand why these spring shops are baffled, all they do is take flat stock, arch it and then heat treat it. It shouldn't be any more trouble to use 3 1/2" stock over the other sizes.

The company I used to drive for used Danbury Auto Spring, we had a fleet of 50+ tractors and 100+ trailers. They're a good company. Another is McDonald & McDonald in Newburgh, NY, they've been around longer than forever.

The problem is all trucks ford, mack, int, oskosh, sterling ,autocar all run 3 or 4 inch springs . FWD made it with 3.5 wide spring oddball . The spring shops don't have 3.5 stock because no one uses it but fwd. They might sell 1 set every 10 years. But they don't sell any I gess. The spring shops dont want to make springs any more ether . They want part numbers so they can order china springs then install. The problem I have then is the springs are FWD with FWD part #'s . You cant cross reference any fwd part #:mad:FWD never let out the patens to any aftermarket parts places.

Thanks for all the help guys . I will try the new phone numbers
