I am just curious for what weight oil guys are runnin in their diesels, especially winter. Also, add a brand. It probably won't get that cold next year, but will running a thinner oil really make the engine crank faster in extreme cold? Also, what about switching to synthetic for winter, and dino for summer, any harmful affects or is it one or the other?

I run Rotella 15W 40 regular with no problems but slow crank in cold.

I run the same thing because it's the most readily available here. A 6 gallon case is just over $30 at Sam's Club. I plug in if the temps drop too low to help with cranking.

I use 15w40 castrol ,But if you change every 3K mile you could use the cheapest stuff out there

I used to use Valvoline Premium Blue 2000 15W40,which is a semi-synthetic.It worked well, and seemed to be a little thinner in cold weather.

I have since switched to Walmart brand semi-synthetic,as it's dirt cheap, and readily available. It seems to be even better for cold weather.

I use Rotela T semi syn. in everthing, 0W-30 in the cold because we can't always plug in and 10w-40 in the nice weather. We became tired of having to stock a bunch of different oils.
We use it in Kabota,Koller, Ford gassers 5.4 and the powerstroke 7.3

I run Esso 15W40 or Mobil 1 15W40. I plug the truck in whenever it's cold out and have never had a problem to date.

Schaffers 7000 supreme semisynthetic. 15w40 but if you look at its specs I think its pour point actually puts it closer to a 7w40 or so if I remember right. Great stuff IMO and pretty reasonable. I think I get a case for 35$ delivered to my door.

I may switch to rotella in the summer just cuz its free for me even though it aint the best oil IMO but I want to run something with a lower pour point in the winter. Who knows, 35$ is cheap for a great oil so I just may stick with paying for my oil.

We use Valvoline Premium Blue Extreme, 5W40, wich is a pure synthetic. We have a deal with a local Valvoline Instant oil Change place that charges us $50 each for the oil changes on our 3 Powerstroke Diesels.

I run Delvac 1 5/40. Not cheap but it flows great in the cold.

Texaco 15/40 Superduty.

I run it in everything and have had no problems in any application.

The only problem I ever had was running a different brand. My oil supplier ran out of my normal brand and replaced it with Citco 15/40.
The stuff never held up to the Texaco version. Some engine problems seemed to come up with certain peices of equipement that had many engine hours on them.
