I bought two 16.5 oz cans of AeroKroil for $16.00 about a year ago and was very pleased with the results. I will be using this from now on.

Just read the thread over there. I knew WD-40 was only good for cleaning when I was still riding a bicycle. My Father worked for Exxon, and he said it was .1% silicone, and the rest solvents. Liquid wrench worked good. PB Blaster doesn't work at all, and lucky me I bought a damn gallon of it. I got a can of Yield from a salesman, never tried it. Now I will. Alan posted that he was happy with Kroil in another thread on here, but I threw away that order form I got in the mail before Alan posted his results. Fred told us all about the candle wax trick. The Acetone ATF is a new one to me. The #1 heating oil I might have tried before. I had a can my Uncle gave me from the motor pool of the NG. It was dated 1968, and just said Oil, Penetrating on it. Smelled A LOT like diesel, and it was the best stuff I ever used. When I worked for Uncle Sam, one of the Maint. guys at the Powerhouse kept that same can under lock and key, and he only had 1 can. Said it was the best he ever used. Got it from the motor pool at the NG, and he worked on tanks. I had good results with used motor oil and diesel brushed on, to free up salt spreader drag chains. Messy, but seemed to do the trick. Brushed it on, let it sit a week, beat the chain with a hammer, apply more, lit it sit a day or two, and they freed up.
Might have to try the ATF acetone blend on the Willys.
And cat, I'd kill for a good old fashioned hardware store around here. The big boxes put them all out of business. There are a couple of ACEs, but nothing like the old stores that had EVERYTHING.

well i guess i'm lucky we still have one of those in town you can find alot of stuff in there that sometimes you can't get at the big box with people who know something. but they are a dyein breed to find one this was a true value - now it's a do it best brand . And belive it or not alot of time there stuff is cheaper .

Kroil is what i have used for cutting oil on my Bridgeports for a long time . Acetone and ATF would make sense because of the two chemical propertys however has a Shop owner iam not gonna have this home brew setting in pump bottles when Osha walks into my shop...
I use Gm heat Valve compound nothing compares to it started using it in 87 at the dealer and have bought it every since for my shops . I would still take PB blaster over WD40 , and Kroil again is used has a cutting oil on a lathe so its ablity to pen is good compared to most store bought oil.
Chuck mentions my use of Parhine "Candle wax" :D still probley one of the biggest reasons we get more exhust manifold jobs sent to us from other shops on 4.6, 5.4, 5.3, 6.0 engines . This is a old timers trick and something my dad taught me and i have shared and taught my own guys this skill NOTHING works better than this process if done right.
The key to broken bolt extracts is allowing the wax to wick into the broken bolt this is done by applying heat if you make it red forget it your done, you have to warm the stud or bolt just warm enough to allow the wax to flow into the area at this point about 1-3 mins of setting the bolt screws right out. When broken flush we use a 110 snapon wire feed take a nut weld the nut to the broken stud fill the center allow the weld to cool just to the point were the wax flows into the area again wait 1-3 mins and put your socket on the welded nut and screw out. You have to follow the above to the tee when working with aluim cylinder heads knowing that aluim cools at diff rates than the steel bolt your trying to extract :wink.

If you ever use epoxy or polyester resins, acetone is the thing you need to clean up. I always have some on hand, consider it a necessity. I get it at the hardware section of the feed store. Anyplace with auto body stuff should also have it. It's flammable, use care. I admit that I clean my hands with it.
But I never thought of mixing it with ATF!

I discovered Boeshield T-9 at work, after we were trying to find a more human friendly product, for corrosion protection and lubrication. I/we tried a can and a week later we agreed at work to ban PB and a couple others we use. I like that it does two things, and doesnt leave an oily residue, and the odor is less noticeable. I now order it for my needs at work and have the package labeled for me only, and have a direct line of delivery from my shipper so no one else knows its in.:D Check the MSDS, it is safer.

Well I bought a 1 gallon can of acetone today. It was 30.00. I got a sprayer and mixed it up after a while it seperated. Looks like oil and vinegar. Didnt try it though. Smells just like Wifes nailpolish remover. :)

That seems a little unusual. I use acetone to clean plow pumps. I put the waste in clear apple juice jugs (got plenty of them) and it sits for a pretty long time before I take it up the road to give it away. It never seperates as far as I can tell.
Got in a jam once, and used Valvoline Brake Cleaner, and that did not want to mix. That stuff was a nasty cocktail of chemicals though. That's why I use acetone.

Threw alot of tests and studys on me several things have been linked to my cancer one is the Chems in Brake Kleen for those that spray with this stuff theres only a handful that work well and they still dont work like they should.
The other chems would be paints and thinners i worked with for so long. There was also a study done on some of the chemicals i worked around when servicing farms, Farmers i know are aware of this but many of the things they spray are very unfriendly to ones body...:wink

Well I used my mix and cant really tell if its any better. I do need to find a good sprayer. I oiled up screw type chain binders I was using to hold salt spreader in dumpbody. I think its thicker than PB,which is what I normally use,so it hangs on the threads better. Im not sure its worth the time.
