View Full Version : Buyers Setup on a Dodge

I got talking to the new owner of this Buyer plow at our local HD last Saturday. I asked him how he liked it, and he said it was OK, not too hard on the truck, easy to push, but it didn't scrape well the way the dealer set it up. I took a look, and aside from the obvious plow shoes (they would make it easy to push, alright), it still is not set up properly.

He was also quick to point out the slight bend you can see in the cutting edge and mouldboard on the passenger side. He chewed the rag about that for a while, saying that it was impossible to hit anything hard this winter because of all of the snow that kept coming and coming. He said the dealer claimed it must have been a collision. I said welcome to plowing.

I don't know these plows at all, nor do I know the Dodge half tons, but either the truck needs the front lifted about 2 inches, or the mount needs to be tucked up by the same amount to get this outfit riding right. This was a dealer install - he never touched it.

Does anyone have any specific advise on helping this guy get better set up than he is? I see him from time to time?

John - I think you're going in the right direction. I also don't know anything about Dodge 1/2 tons, but IIRC they're coil sprung. Maybe a heavier coil or something to get the front end up a little? Is he running any ballast?

As well, truck mount should be moved up, if there's room on the mount to go up a few holes in the mount hardware. Someone with a little experience with either product can give an idea as to mount heights off of level ground. This would help get the right attack angle on the cutting edge of the plow.

Besides removing the shoes it definitely looks like the plow needs to be moved up a hole or two on the truckside mounting as well as some sort of a suspension tweak. The attack angle looks as if it will still be way off if only the shoes are removed.

Short answer is that the A-Frame should be level, or even a little UP on the truck side.
