If you do alot of edging this is the tool for you. I highly suggest you go demo one, best handheld tool to ever come out.
I only got to use it for an hr and it's a little pricey @ $650 but worth every penny. The demand is super high, mine won't be here for 2 weeks.
Now I don't have to lug my 300Lb Brown bed edger around.

Picked ours up last week, works great. Way better than the Bed Shaper we will be getting rid of.

I got to demo one last week on a job and the thing works great. Its a whole lot quicker then the Turfco edger. Hopefully, I will be getting one in the next week or so if they aren't sold out.

There is a video there of it in action too. Pretty cool tool! Wonder how long the clutch will last? I know at least years ago, some machines could not handle certain attachments due to the load on the clutch.

We really work our power brooms and those clutches have held up well.

For real? I was considering purchasing the sidewinder unit we are renting now.

I'd like to replace the Bed Shaper with a Sidewinder, but the Echo may have changed my mind. Never used one though.
I'm thinking the Echo for redefining and widening out a little and a sod cutter for bigger areas.

I have a Brown bed edger and believe me for putting in an edge when there isnt one its incredible but to re-define an edge its not the best machine to use.
Its very hard to tell where the cutting blade is when redefining and you can make a mess, with the Echo you can see right where you are and redefine very easy-I'd like to try one.

still waiting on one to show up too. We're pushing off as many of our re-edging jobs as possible trying to stall until the machine comes in. we have thousands of feet to edge and this is going to be a serious money maker for us.

We still have about a foot of snow on the ground, southern exp. have melted but we are about 2 to 3 weeks from serious cleanups. Hope it is here by then.
tomorrow is the last day of edging for the year for us. How can you guys not have your beds prepped pre season? I learned that getting it done pre season keeps you out of overtime easier, extends the season longer to the beginning, and really helps things flow once everything starts happening in a few weeks.

we've done a bunch of spring cleanups so far, but we only got going 9 days ago this year. We have yet to mulch anything yet either. I've found its more efficient for us to separate the SCU from the edging/mulch jobs. By the middle of next week we will be mulching and edging.

Ummm snow, frost, wet ground, etc. Fairly simple why we don't have them prepped.

How dumb of us, I never thought of edging the beds preseason, I am calling in my shovelling crew right know to shovel all the snow away from the bed edges so we can get them taken care of.
Hey while they are at it I am going to have them shovel all the turf areas as well, that way I can have a guy with a mower go right behind, cut the grass, and get my first cutting bill out. Thanks JMac I never would have thought of it with out you.:rolleyes:

LOL. :grinz
I'll admit - it's because I'm lazy.
Truth be told - we'll start next week with spring clean-ups. I don't like calling guys in too early, then they get used to the slower pace. Besides, green season doesn't officially start until April 15, and I'd end up eating the labour costs for a few weeks before billing cycles switch over from winter to summer - a form of cash flow management. :wink
Funny thing how different regions are affected by seasonal changes at different times....

I'm with Dave.
I could of started last week, but I don't see the point. We pulled the snowplow stakes this week, next week we'll repair the plow damage and the week after we'll start cleanups. I don't want to get ahead, because the shrubs haven't even started to grow yet.
We are right on schedule with past years.

We checked out this new Echo unit at a local open house last week. Looks like a great time saver.

There is one at my dealer. I was considering buying it but not sure how it would perform. Seems like it would be underpowered with that large of rotating mass. After reading this thread I better go grab it since we have a big edge job coming up and can't wait around for one on backorder.

We picked ours up this morning. I managed to find a shrub bed with out snow in or around it at the shop to try it out. We have had a bunch of rain and the ground is soaked but the thing cut through the turf great, left a bunch of mud in the bed but once it is drier this should save us a tremendous amount of time.
I actually can't wait to edge some beds in a week or so. Last time I said that was back in like 95 when we got our first Walker mounted Bed Shaper.:D

Bought ours last month. Had to do about 250 tree rings. Worked like a champ. Did have a bad check valve but dealer took care of it. Surprised at how powerful it is. Wouldn't want to edge any shallower. Gets the edge just deep enough.
